This has probably done before but I don't even care. I'm too hardcore.

Augustus Waters felt the harsh glare of hospital lights on his face. The hospital came as no surprise, but what confused him was the fact the could her a woman who he knew to be his mother sobbing quietly in the seat beside the bed.

Usually his parents seemed unfazed in front of him about his illness.

Augustus tried to move, but her realised he must have been out with some sort of aesthetic that hadn't quite worn off yet. He tried to open his eyes to escape the darkness that surrounded him, but he found he couldn't move. An automatic panicked claustrophobia set in and Augustus attempted to writhe but found as if he had been bound by an imaginary rope.

He heard his father come into the room and whisper words of comfort in his mother's ear

Augustus wanted to shout and scream that he was fine, that there was nothing to worry about. But he also wanted to know why he couldn't move.

Mum, he wanted to say, Mum, I'm fine, don't worry.

The doctor came in, supporing the same clinical smell that all Doctor's had, making him want to gag.

"I'm sorry to inform you that August ma-"

The Doctor was cut off by Augustus' mum.

"Augustus, it's Augustus." She said.

The doctor continued.

"He only has two days left since falling into his comatose state. The tumours will soon get to a critical pint where we can only do so much."

What? A coma? No, I'm not going to- I can't die!

His thoughts were almost drowned out by his father's crying and mum's pleading.

"I'm sorry," the doctor said, "But there is nothing else we can do."

No, no, no, I can't die now. Not now I have something to live fo! Where is Hazel? Why isn't she here?

Augustus knew he was stupid for trying, but he focused all his thoughts on Hazel, hoping to create some sort of far-fetched telepathic connection.

Hazel-Grace, please. I love you more than life its self, and I hope you never forget me, especially if you get to read the end of the book. I love you. Okay?

Hazel sat alone in her room, the only noise being the churning of the oxygen tank. Her mind wandered to a place she had forced herself not to think of the past few days as she thought of Augustus.

She suddenly heard his voice in her head as loaud as if he was standing right behind her.

"Okay?"

"Okay." She thought quietly, smiling slightly to herself.

"Okay."
