AN: Fairy Tail belongs to Hiro Mashima! Sadly, he made this fanfiction possible...
I was sitting listening to Skillet (a band) and "Lucy" came on. It had me thinking about Natsu and Lucy and funnily enough had me thinking about the recent episodes. just had to write this after it came into my head, I don't know if anyone else has written something like this – sorry if someone has!
July 1st X792 – 1 year after the Grand Magic Games when the dragons attacked.
He knelt down in front of the cold stone, wiping away the leaves and removing the offending weeds. How dare they grow on her grave? Didn't they know what she had died for?! Did they know about him failing her? Were they just taunting him because he'd let her die? He laid the roses down on the plinth, running his other hand over the engraved name cut deep into the pale grey stone.
"...Lucy...I'm sorry, Luce. I still remember your tears as you told us. I tried to tell you everything would be alright when you cried in my arms. I promised everything would be alright...I'm sorry, Luce. I couldn't save you from Rogue...I didn't know he was going to try to kill you. I should have been faster, stronger – I'm sorry, Luce...I failed you." Tears started to roll down his cheeks from under his pink hair, his eyes hidden as his head bent low in grief as he knelt in front of the grave, "Thank you, Lucy. Thank you for saving my Lucy. I'm sorry that you died protecting her, I really am, but thank you! You died in her arms, smiling. ...all I can give you are these roses and a promise. We won't forget you, I promise Lucy, and this time I won't fail you. Happy birthday, Luce, you saved us all."
Natsu stood up from the grave, wiping his eyes with his forearm before looking at the woman standing behind him. Her brown eyes smiled at him with a sad cheer, remembering the woman that died in her arms, the woman who had saved her life. She knew he blamed himself, but she knew that he would have done anything for her, just as he had done for her since that very first moment that they had met in Hargeon. She took his hand in hers, knowing how hard this day was for him, for them both, entwining their fingers, squeezing his hand lightly.
He wrapped his arms around her, laying his forehead against hers. He looked into her brown eyes; his own eyes filled with both sadness and love. He couldn't bring the future Lucy back, but he was going to hold onto his Lucy for eternity. He wasn't going to ever let go of her. He'd never have to say goodbye to her again. He kissed her lips gently and smiled at her, his Lucy, knowing that Future Lucy would be smiling her special bright smile somewhere right now with her Natsu, who'd hopefully have finally learned about the precious gift that had been in front of him this whole time, ever since that day at Hargeon. The day when he'd been looking towards the past, looking for Igneel, and found the future instead.
The day he'd found Lucy.
I had to right this, sorry! The song that inspired me was "Lucy" by Skillet, just in case you missed the bit at the top ;P If you liked this, give the song a listen if you haven't already :) Hope you 'enjoyed' it, thanks so much for reading! ^_^ and sorry, I listen to some really sad music sometimes O:') I write best when I'm listening to music, it sets a mood or an atmosphere that causes me to slip into the right state of mind (or side ;P ) ^_^
And sorry for posting this on a Monday instead of a Sunday, I was 40 miles away from my laptop yesterday.
