The fourth time it happened, it was just in passing.
They watched their suspect as he was wheeled out on a gurney towards the morgue, standing in silence for a few seconds after the doors swung shut. Then something snapped in the air between them.
"What the hell, Saijo," Liu Yee growled, spinning Atsuki around to face him. "I told you clearly not to go in without me."
"If I hadn't interfered, the target would have gotten away." Atsuki's eyes flashed, golden eye almost discernible behind the black contact he wore to conceal its presence. "And I dealt with it, didn't I?"
"That's no excuse for going in without backup. What if you had failed?"
"But I didn't!"
"That's not the point!"
Their heated argument quickly reached the point where it began to attract attention from other FORT and PEAKS members filling out paperwork or processing specimens in the primary workroom of the FORT HQ. Liu Yee, being the elder (and therefore expected to be more mature, even if he was just a bit older than Atsuki) shot Atsuki a glare. "Let's take this outside."
Atsuki's lip curled. "Fine." He brushed past Liu Yee angrily and left.
His partner shot an apologetic look at the others in the workroom, who kindly pretended not to have any idea something had happened.
While waiting outside, Atsuki frowned at the sky to keep himself from losing his cool and hauling off on Liu Yee when he showed up. He heard the door open and then close and turned around to affront him. "What gives you the right to- mmf!"
He was promptly cut off by Liu Yee kissing him with bruising force, wrapping his arms around his back and neck, threading his fingers through Atsuki's hair. When he finally let go, Atsuki looked up at him, obviously confused. "What? I thought you were mad at me."
"I am- I'm mad at you for making me worry about you." Liu Yee turned so Atsuki couldn't see the raging blush rampaging across his cheekbones. "Don't do that."
Atsuki laughed.
