He wears round, dark aviator goggles. The other recruits tell me that s because he always wished to be a pilot. After years of pursuing that dream, he somehow ended up as the captain of our small force. Captain Fluke, most recruits call him, saying he never deserved the role in the first place. He never seems very serious, jokes a lot more than you would expect. They say he only got it because he was close friends with the rebel leader. Either way, I think he does fine. I mean, we haven t sunk yet, so I guess that s good.

Most of the recruits seem to be mostly to themselves, although there are a few groups that seem to have formed. A couple recruits I ve kinda made friends with. There s Joseph. He s the youngest cadet on the ship. He says he wanted to join so he could spend time on the sea. He says he loves the creatures in the ocean, the dolphins, sharks, and especially all of the fish. I doubt that s the only reason, though. You can see there s something deeper when you like into his eyes. And then there s Cade. It actually seems like he s one of the more popular recruits. He s friendly enough, though. He seems to be willing to make new friends, which has helped me out. Anyone to talk to has been a blessing.

The Ragican Empire MUST be destroyed! Everyone has had WAY too much taken from them. And they won't ever stop taking!" Cade was telling me yesterday. I don't know what actually happened to him, what made him join our force, but I assume it must have horrible from the way he talks about the empire. Then again, that's how everyone here talks about them, so I'm not sure.

After my first few days, the other recruits have started calling me Hedgehog, probably because of the way my hair spikes up when I m not wearing my cap. It was a style thing back home, an attempt to show any personality I had left. I should really get that cut. I don t want anyone knowing more than they need to. Especially now. I was Jacob back at home, or at least when I last had one.

I would say what they did to was horrible, but I've seen how they've treated everyone else. Ones much less fortunate than I. My home is gone. It was burnt during one of their "peacekeeping" attempts, using their terrible machinery to keep back the protesters filling the streets.

My brother died in the inferno. That's why I joined the rebellion. Anything to avenge his death, and bring justice to everything the Empire has done, to all of us.
