The Exit Strategy.

Spoilers for A Better Man. I do not own Flashpoint or any of the characters.

The blank piece of paper stared at him from the desk. He nervously flexed his fingers as the thoughts of the past several years ran through his head. Writing this letter was probably the hardest thing he was going to have to do, well, scratch that, telling his team would be the hardest part. It hurt like hell that he had to write this letter, but it was part of the required exit process. Exhaling the breath he hadn't realized he was holding, he picked up the pen and began writing.

He folded the letter into the envelope and sealed it. He addressed it and with great determination, he handed it to his boss. A wave of relief washed over Wordy as Sergeant Parker patted him on the shoulder and gave him a gentle, knowing smile. That motivation guided Wordy as he took a shaky breath and walked into the locker room to speak to his waiting teammates one last time.

In the quiet of the later evening, Parker opened the letter and with a heavy heart read the contents.

It is with great sadness that I must resign my position as a constable with the Strategic Response Unit. I have developed an illness that forces me to reevaluate my capabilities as a member of Team One. I can no longer depend on myself to protect this Team from outside entities and to perform in the capacity that is required of me in the unknown situations that arise out of every call.

My time with Team One was the best time of my life. The S.R.U. was the best learning arena I could have ever imagined. The men and women of this team were the friendliest and most willing to teach and lead. I always felt at ease with this group and was eager to learn new things. I thank you for presenting the challenges I faced in training and on the job. I thank the Department for providing me with the resources and tools to do the job well. I only hope that the person who receives the gear that I am returning experiences the same level of excitement and courage that I felt every time I put on that uniform.

Sincerely,

Kevin Wordsworth
