Snow
Disclaimer: I Own Nothing.
Summary: Ned brings home Jon. A spin-off of "Fawn".
"Ned…" Catelyn began with an edge in her tone. "I will ask you one more time. Whose child is that?" She asked, teeth gritted. Before her, Ned stood with an infant in his arms. One that looked exactly like the baby pictures of Ned that his mother had shown Catelyn when she first started dating Brandon (she had shown her Brandon's, too, of course, but that was not the point at the moment). Ned looked away guiltily. "You can guess whose DNA he shares." Ned mumbled in reply, and Catelyn wanted to throw a dinner plate, but the baby in her husband's arms was asleep and so was Robb upstairs.
How dare he!? How dare he just waltz inside from the snow with a baby in his arms?! Catelyn glared at Ned, wondering if it would qualify as domestic abuse if she punched him as soon as he put that baby down. She looked down at the baby. He looked like Ned even more than Robb. That made her so angry! So angry she was sure she was going to explode!
Catelyn fell back onto the couch and ran a hand through her hair. She put her head between her knees and took several deep breaths. When she looked up, Ned was still looking at her guiltily and she was still angry, but she was calmer.
"Who?" She asked. Ned looked away again. "I can't tell you." He said.
"Who, Ned?" Catelyn pressed. Ned's jaw clenched. "Cat, please…"
"Is it Ashara?" Catelyn asked, tears coming to her eyes. "It was, wasn't it?!" She cried. Ned glared at her suddenly with such intensity that she flinched.
"It doesn't who his mother is. What matters is that he has nowhere else to go and I promised to take care of him." Ned practically growled. "Never ask about her again."
Catelyn forced herself to nod. But she spat one more question.
"What's his name? The boy." Ned looked down at the infant and then at her.
"Jon." He said simply. Catelyn scowled. "His last name…"
"Star—"
"He will not share a name with our children." Catelyn said through grit teeth. Ned's expression darkened, but he nodded.
"Jon Snow then." He said. Catelyn was tempted to ask if Snow was the mother's last name, but when she followed Ned's gaze, which went right over her head, she looked out the living room window to see fresh snow falling. Catelyn nearly rolled her eyes, but instead she just stood up and walked right past Ned and into the foyer.
She stopped at the foot of the stairs.
"Do you expect me to be a mother to him?" Catelyn asked. Ned waited a long time to reply. "I might dare to hope, but I expect nothing." He answered.
"Good." Catelyn said and she began to climb upstairs to her son's nursery.
