Note: Again, spoilers for ZEXAL 114. Ah, I'm on a roll.
fever dream
There was pain everywhere. That was the first thing Rio Kamishiro felt.
She wanted to shout, grab onto something or someone, to hold onto something because she was sinking. She was sinking in the pain that was taking over her whole body. She couldn't even open her eyes because of the sheer pain.
Something's happening to me, her mind tells her.
Something wrong is happening to her and she's scared. She's horrified and she's alone. She needs someone. She needs Ryouga. Ryouga, where is he? She can't feel him. Her emotions are a mess. Pain, she was in excruciating pain. Anger, she was angry at herself because she felt so weak. Panic, because she really doesn't know what's happening. Fear, because she wonders, am I dying? Sadness, it's because Ryouga's not there.
She feels so alone.
Ah, the pain. She vaguely remembers feeling this pain, sometime ago.
There was… an accident. And she was in that accident. But, it wasn't her accident with IV. This was something… more painful. She can't remember.
She can't remember, and she's angry. She's so angry she wants to cry. She wants to cry and her body just hurts so much. Why is this happening to me?
Why does it hurt so much… kaasan?
Kaasan. Kaasan. She had a mom.
She had a mom, what happened to her? She can't remember.
But she remembers warmth. She remembers love. She remembers a lot of different emotions and Rio feels like a child.
She vaguely remembers a cool hand on her head when she had a fever. She remembers being carried in strong but slender arms and having her hair fixed when she was a child. She remembers kisses on her cheeks and a tinkling laughter.
Rio clings onto that memory. She doesn't care if this is some illusion caused by the pain or her overactive mind. She holds onto that memory like a lifeline. She feels a sense of calm wash over her. And the anxiety fades a little. She can breathe properly. She can cry freely.
It's alright, darling. You'll be fine. I promise.
Those words ring in her head and she trusts them. She lets the warmth of those words comfort her.
And soon, Rio Kamishiro settles into another deep slumber.
End note: Okay yeah. This is the first time I've ever written Rio. Agh, I don't really like how it turned out.
