Emily had only wanted to put him in his place, to make him stop obsessing over her safety. She knew the confrontation with her Dad would make him stop.
And it looked like it had worked. At first.
After that incident, though, she started to feel watched. Everywhere. When she was out with friends on a friday night, when she was sitting at home on sunday afternoons. It creeped her out. Seriously creeped her out. But she didn't connect it to Eli.
After almost two months of this, the feeling became unbearably intense when she walked down a quiet road on her way back home. She couldn't help herself and turned around. There was a car, toned glasses, slowly driving down the road. Way too slow for this road. She looked straight ahead again and starting walking a little faster. "This is pathetic," she thought. Suddenly turning around yet again and walking straight towards the car. She was so quick that the driver couldn't even drive away or realise what was happening. She threw open the passanger's door...
... and looked into the tear stricken face of Eli.
"What are you doing?" she almost screamed. "Have you been following me? All this time?" She glared into his eyes, as a few more tears left their shelter. "I... I don't... I don't know..." he said, his voice barely more than a whisper.
She calmed down a little, her voice quieter as she asked "You don't know if you've been following me?" and the anger was clearly evident, despite the fact that she had calmed down. His gaze shifted towards his shoes and stayed there. "No... I just don't know... don't know why" he said, mumbling like little child.
She stood there, completely confused. Had his protective feeling for her taken such a mad extent?
Had he lost his mind? She liked him, she was painfully aware of that right now, liked him a brother. And she also knew that she wanted to help him. Her hesitation was only brief when she got into the passenger seat and closed the door.
"Drive me home... you need to talk to Dad." was all she said. And he did, he started the enginge and took off in the direction of her home.
