Kaneko was not beautiful by any means, Akari knew. She was not ugly either, but she was plain and heavy and not likely to garner the attentions of any of their male classmates, and Akari would be lying if she said she thought otherwise. Which is why it came as a surprise to her when, watching the game between Kaneko and the opposing team's first board, Akari found herself entranced by the fierce concentration and determination etched into her friend's face and arms. She was not beautiful, no. But in that moment Akari found her breathtakingly attractive all the same.
