Thin Mints
He's gotta be joking. Even more cookies? When would this end?
But enough is enough.
So one day, when the scouts come knocking on Castle's door once again, there is not the cute, smiling Mr. Castle opening the door, but a stern-looking lady instead, a knowing look in her green eyes and a non-bullshit smirk playing over her lips.
The girls gulp, but one dares to speak up, her voice full of innocence Beckett won't be fooled by, sees how the girl is trying to recover from the unusual sight.
"Umm, hello. Is Mr. Castle home?"
"No," the lady replies with a hint of finality, "But Mrs. Castle is. And let me tell you, she knows exactly what you girls are up to."
The lady crosses her arms across her chest, casually leans against the door-frame. Uh-oh, she is onto them.
The braver girl who spoke first squirms in her spot, but still won't back down, cause jeez, Mr. Castle is such a nice man, and an even better customer.
"We don't know what you mean, lady…" the other girl pipes up, despite not meeting Beckett's eye.
"Oh, but I believe you do," says the lady, quick and sure in her answer. "See, I know for a fact that you and your friend here have visited Mr. Castle yesterday, already selling him a supply of cookies to last him a year. And you did just the same thing two days before that. And last Wednesday too, I heard." She looks the girl in the eye. "And before you try to deny it, let me stop you right there, because Mr. Castle has already confessed the whole truth."
The girls squirm, their eyes falling to the ground.
"Look," the lady continues, her voice a little mellower but still stern. "You two and I know that Mr. Castle's just a very nice man who, unfortunately, cannot say no to a little girl's pleading look. But let me warn you. Mrs. Castle," the lady points at herself to emphasize the point, "is not enjoying the way you are exploiting Mr. Castle's generosity and neither does she think it to be honorable or worthy of the mission of a true girl scout."
Both girls' cheeks burn red. They already knew it, in a way, they knew that it was not fair, but oh, all that money they earned and the appraising looks they got, envy even, from some of the other girls….but if the lady puts it like that….
The second girl's eyes swim with sudden tears of shame and regret. "We're sorry," she mumbles, still not looking at the stern lady, the air suddenly dusty in the nicely furnishes, carpeted hall.
"That's okay," the lady says at last, her voice suddenly gentler, softer, and the girls finally look up. "We all make mistakes."
The lady offers a gentle, encouraging smile, and it transforms her whole face, almost nothing left of that stern, slightly intimidating woman from before.
"Now," the lady says, her voice suddenly dropping to a little conspiratorial whisper, "Do you two by any chance have a spare box of thin mints? Because Mr. Castle has given all the good stuff away at work."
Prompt: rtds9fan asked: Kate finds Castle at the 12th passing out an ungodly amount of boxes of cookies to everyone. When questioned about it Kate finds out that numerous girl scouts in town have realized Castle is a softie who will buy gob amounts of cookies. He gets hit up by numerous scouts who he can't say no too any of them. So he now has more boxes of cookies at his loft than he can deal with. Kate finds it adorable the way he can't say no to the scouts.
