Summary: It's gone.
The winter chill is cold on her face. It reddens her cheeks and stings her skin.
She doesn't notice.
She vaguely wonders when the weather decided to turn cold, the coldest its been for years, but quickly realises she already knows the answer.
The frozen air turns her tears to crystal. So beautiful in their sadness. She vaguely wonders if she'll ever smile again. It starts to rain.
She doesn't notice.
Her hands are numb as they hang limply at her sides, her feet begin to sink into the grass as it soaks up the rain that allows it to live.
As she looks down at the only thing left to commemorate a life that was taken. It's such a pretty headstone. All carved in gold and protected by angels. Where had they been when she needed them? Where had they been when she lay broken, her life bleeding out and away from her?
"Sammie… it hurts…" The memory is a painful breath in the wind now.
"Hold on Brooke, please… don't leave me…" She touches her fingers to her lips, then to the top of the headstone. It was no use to cry, crying wouldn't bring Brooke back.
The winter turned suddenly cold the moment Sam's heart did. The second the sunshine of her world disappeared from the sky forever. The moment the beeping stopped.
