THE SUMMONING

Salt circle, holy water, candles placed just so, the special mixture of saffron, cinnamon, lavender, rosemary, and Low John the Conqueror powder all resting in the bottom of a silver bowl.
Spray paint—an unfortunate shade of neon pink—forms an intricate lacework of sigils, symbols, and seals. It takes two full cans.
Matches hastily meet wicks, the resultant white smoke churns and curls lazily upward.
I sit, legs folded, palms damp with anticipation. The ancient tome creaks as I open it, the pages skritching as I turn to the appropriate page.
The trap is set.
I begin the recitation.
