The Door
She opened the door to the attic, beyond the portal it was inky black so thick that her hand torch could not penetrate it even the lights in the hallway seemed to wax upon the door's opening. She knew that the stair lay only a few feet away, but as he crossed the threshold her step began to falter.
What little light that was not consumed wholly by the inky murk showed him no stairs in front. as the shadows danced to her failing, something ran between her legs and quickly passed beyond the light of her torch. It had looked for a moment like a cat, but there was an eerie blue flame that followed the beast the blue flame wandered here to there. She knew that following such a wisp into that abominable darkness would only lead to ruin, but her curiosity spurred him in her forward momentum.
The mysterious glow coming off the creature did not lend itself to the revelation of to whom it was attached to. Crossing the threshold even though every nerve, as she crossed the portal, screamed at her to turn back, her mind was yelling wildly FOLLOW IT. The darkness engulfed him, swallowing up the light from her hand torch. No light came from the hallway previously breached could no longer give any hope of turning back. The inky blackness crawled upon her skin like a swarm of flies, probing and tasting this intruder into their domain.
The only light left in the void burned a fiery cobalt, a perfect sphere burning bright against the jet world that had consumed her vision. It sat still some distance in front of her, she took a few tentative steps, when he traveled the sphere moved as well. No sound echoed from her footfalls. As she drew closer to the flame, a sound came from ahead a low rumbling could be heard. She was now making progress in her pursuit.
The mute world around her was filled with the cacophony of a low hollow rumble that was almost deafening, as she closed on the orb. Then there was a blinding silence and the blue flame rose up into the air, growing in power, illuminating her surroundings and revealing lush smooth hewn, stonework slabs of otherworldly material. There in front of her stood a tall handsome man. Blue flame flickered off her features setting him in sapphire light. when the orb reached the man's face it split in two and went into the recesses of his eye sockets becoming piercing blue eyes, the fire still burning faintly the light playing across his angular features, dancing cobalt across his brow and up towards his long white hair.
When she looked into his glowing eyes she faltered, swooning she fell back and with lightning reflexes the man reached out catching her behind the back and grabbing her arm he twirled her around looking deeply into her eyes and speaking long guttural tones "ragh, utep ra, f'thgan" he paused looking intently into her eyes he continued "Do you understand me now?"
she feebly nodded her head, "Good; Then witness!" his eyes turned crimson red, the world went dark.
No I cannot sleep, sleep is the realm of my master. I am the waking dream, nightmare made flesh! Remade from my masters claw. I have witnessed. I come as warning, the master stirs.
