Lucas Wolenczak closed his eyes tightly when the machine clamped his head into place. "Don't move, it will be painful if you do so, and we'll just have to do it again. Just let the machine do its job, it'll easier on you." He was advised by the small woman wearing a white coat.

When he opened his eyes again, there was a wide piece of plastic obscuring his vision. He fought the mild sense of claustrophobia, and feeling of helplessness, resolving not to act like a child.

"Ok, we're done with that." She told him, pressing a button. The sides of the machine released, and he pulled his head free shakily. Lucas felt a hand on his upper arm and was led through the maze of hallways into another room.

"What are you going to do to me?" He asked, eyeing the tools laid out.

"That's for the doctor to decide, he likes to talk it over before starting." She said as she seated him in a chair.

In his mind, Lucas automatically equated 'doctor' with 'sadist who is going to do something horrible, and I can't stop it.' He kept his mouth shut, knowing it was probably a bad idea to voice his thoughts.

"Are you ready young man?" A new voice entered the area. Lucas jerked painfully in surprise. His heart began beating wildly when he saw the middle aged man pull on a pair of latex gloves. "I am very good at what I do, son. If all goes according to plan, we'll be done quickly, but a lot of that depends on you." The man said with a smile. The calmness in his voice worried Lucas even more.

"Open your mouth please." The woman said, beside him. Lucas swallowed one last time and obeyed. He whimpered when the large needle slipped into his jaw, despite his promise not to.

The man leaned over again, "I just need to see what I'm working with." He forced Lucas' jaw open and started murmuring information to the woman.

"So," he started, looking at Lucas in a detached manner, "how have you been doing in school? Ready to graduate?" Lucas rolled his eyes in defiance at the ridiculous attempt at small talk. "Ok, you don't have to talk, I thought you might like to before this becomes too painful."

The honestly in that promise shocked Lucas. "Just do what you have to, I don't want to hear about it." He said forcefully, if a little hoarse from panic. I doctor regarded him with a raised eyebrow, and nodded once.

Next, the woman held up a mask, Lucas was so distracted by the so called doctor holding up a spiraled hook, that he didn't respond. She firmly held the mask over his nose and mouth, and he was unable to fight the darkness.

Lucas blinked, trying to clear his cloudy vision. "Oh good, you're awake, son. I trust you have a way home?"

He nodded groggily. "Excellent, I'll see you a few months." The dentist held his hand out and Lucas shook it.

"Yeah... right." He muttered. He stumbled out to the waiting room, was very relieved to see Ben Krieg thumbing through a magazine.

"Was it bad?" The supply and morale officer asked, wincing in sympathy.

Lucas nodded his head, smiling ruefully, before he slurred, "remind me to bush my teeth more often."

Author's Note: Guess who went to the dentist today! Ow... I've never had a panoramic x-ray before, they're freaky. Thanks for reading, I own nothing.
