Hope

"Hope is the most exciting thing in life and if you honestly believe that love is out there, it will come. And even if it doesn't come straight away there is still that chance all through your life that it will."

Why

That was all that was going throw Haiti's mind as she helped her people out of the rubble. Her chest ached with pain; her whole body ached. She tried to ignore the pain, long enough to help who she could.

Why her beloved people?!

The screams and cries were still ringing in her ears. Even as fresh tears blurred her vision, she kept going. She let them fall she helped a woman stand. The poor women was stretched and bruised all over. Her hair was dirty, and an absolute mess.

The woman looked at her with such a painful expression, it tugged at Haiti's heart string. As the young Haitian turned to her ruined house, she clasped her hands together and bowed her head. She was praying for the people she lost, for her country.

Even more pain chipped at the nation's heart. This woman lost everything.

Her people, her beloved, happy people lost everything.

What was to become of her now? If her people lost all hope and just gave up, would she disappear? Would Haiti no longer be a country?

Would she no longer be able to help her people?

The last question ringed in her mind.

Her people have done nothing to deserve this!

With hesitation, Haiti reached her right arm up, placing her hand on the woman's left shoulder. A slim hand rested on hers.

The nation felt something. Something strong.

As the woman gave her nation a small smile, she walked away, wanting to her help her fellow people.

Haiti placed her hand over her heart, smiling though her tears and pain.

"As long a nations people have hope," a male voice behind her said, "that nation will continue to live; coming out stronger then ever before."

The dark-skinned nation's breath shortened as she turned around. America had been the one to talk. Behind him stood other nations. France, Canada, Mexico, the Italian brothers and many others.

As their soldiers' moved around her, making hospital tents and helping her people, the same emotion passed though her as when that woman smiled.

Haiti smiled as she hugged the other nations, their warmth giving her hope.

Her people, the nations of the world still believed in her.

Please, if you haven't already, donate. The Red Cross is a perfect start. The Haitian people need all the help they can get. I've proudly made my donation and so have millions of others around the world.

P.S - It's been done, but in my mind Haiti is a girl.
