Full summary: Bella Swan moves to Forks after her mother's untimely death. At school, she meets the Cullens, a group of strange teenagers with even stranger personalities, and a shocking secret. Can she uncover the truth about them—and her mother's death—before Bella herself becomes a victim? M for language and possible future lemons.

A/N: I apologize in advance for the numerous plot screw-ups. Because there will be tons of them. It's kind of my specialty.

A/N #2: OOC characters. In other words, they won't be as stuffy and crotchety as the original ones.

Prologue

"Well, I signed you up for Forks High School," Charlie said.

Bella carefully avoided his eyes. "Thanks." She wanted to do a lot of things at the moment, but holding an awkward conversation with Charlie was way down low on that list.

They stood there stiffly, both not looking at each other, until Charlie coughed loudly and said, "Uh, guess you'd better head off to bed. Wouldn't want you to be late for your first day."

Yeah, wouldn't want to be late meeting a whole new batch of bitches and dicks to deal with.

Bella shrugged. "G'night, Dad." She turned around and climbed the stairs to her room, which hadn't changed since her childhood. Everything looked untouched, down to the last fold on her bedspread. She threw herself into bed and closed her eyes, trying to ignore the roaring rain splattering on her window.

Guess I'll have to get used to this; rain, rain, and more rain. That's my life now.

She'd never wanted to end up in this wet, dreary town. Least of all with Charlie, who was ever so ill at ease. He wasn't one for conversations (or displaying emotions, for that matter), so she didn't try to start any.

Bella let herself cry a few more tears. She wished her mother was here with her; surely Renee would have found a way to brighten Forks.

But she wasn't, never would be. They've probably buried her, Bella thought bitterly, or maybe the dumb-ass detectives are still hovering over her dead body, trying to figure out her murder.

The haunting sight of her mother floated in front of her eyes: white, unmoving, and utterly bloodless—probably the most puzzling thing about her death. The rest of her body was completely untouched, except for two small moon-shaped cuts in her neck, and the total lack of blood in her system. There weren't even defensive wounds.

And then Phil rushed in, fussing over her until she decided to cart her miserable ass to Forks. She knew Phil wanted to just ditch Bella and go pursue his virtually-nonexistent baseball career. Well, fine. She wasn't going to stick around if no one wanted her there.

The sun had dipped below the horizon and rose again by the time Bella's eyes finally closed, submitting to sleep.

I was so nervous writing this. Before this, I was a fanfiction reader, and this is my first attempt at writing. How'd I do? (If you want to throw fruit at me, I prefer kumquats to tomatoes.)
