War…war never changes. In the year 1945. My great-great grandfather, serving in the army. Wondered when he'd get to go home to his wife. And the son he'd never seen. He got his wish when the US ended World War 2 by dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The world awaited Armageddon. Instead… something miraculous happened. We began to use atomic energy not as a weapon. But as a nearly limitless source of power. People enjoyed luxuries once thought the realm of science fiction. Domestic robots, fusion powered cars, portable computers. But then in the twenty-first century. People awoke from the American dream. Years of consumption lead to the shortages of every major resource. The entire world unravelled. Peace became a distant memory. It is now the year 2077. We stand on the brink of total war. And I am afraid for myself, for my wife, for my infant son. Because if my time in the army taught me on thing… it's that war… war never changes.
Part 1: 111
My name is Johnathan. I live in a small two bedroom house with my wife Nora and my infant son Shaun. Oh and my domestic robot Codsworth. It was but a normal day in the village. Until that moment when they knocked on the door. Vault-Tec.
"Hello there!" the Vault-Tec representative said
"What do you want?" I replied
"How would you like a life of luxury?! A life o..."
"Just cut to the chase" I interrupted
"Oh my! A little impatient aren't we? Well anyway, you have been secured a place in your local vault! Vault 111"
"What's it gonna cost?" I asked
"Nothing! You're the exact type of family we're looking for so you have been assigned a place! Free of charge!"
"Cool"
"All I'm going to need is the names of all of your family in this household"
"Ok. I'm Johnathan, there's my wife Nora and there is also my infant son Shaun"
"Great you've now got a place in vault 111"
At that moment I closed the door. And then I heard Shaun crying.
"Mister Johnathan! Miss Nora!" shouted Codsworth "Shaun is crying and I can't stop it. I think he needs some of that affection you humans have so much of."
"Ok thanks Codsworth" I told him
Shaun was really upset so I turned on his mobile and cuddled him to death. When Codsworth shout again to alert us to a news report on TV. It said that bombs were being dropped all over the country and they were quickly heading towards us. The reporter seemed quite upset and he got so upset the broadcast cut off.
"QUICK HURRY TO THE VAULT! I'LL GRAB SHAUN" said Nora
Just before I had the chance to walk out the door Codsworth said "I guess this is goodbye mister Johnathan."
"It doesn't have to be Codsworth. Let's just call it a see you soon" I said back
I ran to the vault along with Nora and the Vault-Tec representative was standing there arguing with the guard at the gate. They kept saying that he was not on the list and was not allowed into the vault. However, Nora and I pushed passed him and said our names and the guard let us in and the Vault-Tec guy was there complaining about how he couldn't get in. another guard directed us to the vault's door and just before it lowered an atomic bomb was dropped just as the door started to lower the blast went just above our heads. We then descended into the depths of the vault were we would be put into suspended animation. In a cryogenic chamber.
