Very little had changed for Violet over the last few years. Actually she could only think of three changes that had happened. One: she had become a little more outgoing. Two: She was now able to fight crime at night in her super form because no officer in their right mind was really going to book the supers for making their life easier. Three: She had gotten tall enough that the girl's varsity basketball team had tried to recruit her. The lied and sucked up so much, but no. Violet had told them they were cute and she would get them something for Christmas.

But nothing too major, not for her.

Violet flopped down, her thoughts still swirling, at a lunch table. The mismatched table. Violet supposed it was all right that way. Her, Tony, and Kari could eat in peace without any guff from neighboring tables. Life was good.

Kari was the next to arrive and she put her lunch down and began to yank it out. "Hey Violet! I'll trade you this bologna sandwich for your apple." Kari waved the limp confection slightly in a vain attempt to make it look tastier.

"Kari, I'm vegetarian. Next time you try to shove your dead cow meat on me I will be forced to kill you." Violet took a bite of her apple to finish her point and then resumed waiting for Tony.

"You always say that." Kari grumbled. She then very carefully sniffed her sandwich and barley nibbled at the edges. "I wonder if Tony will trade?" Violet rolled her eyes and continued to watch for him.

"He kinda slow today, huh?" Violet asked as she craned her neck around the glaring basketball team.

"Maybe it's because he hasn't had any good Oscar Meyer." Kari said and reached for Violet carrots.

Slowly. Make it natural. You are almost there. Just a little bit further. And-

Violet slapped her hand away. "Ok, I pack my lunch. Maybe you should pack yours. Hey, wait, what did I say about the killing?"

"Um," Kari tried to look around for inspiration, "not to?" Violet raised an eyebrow and Kari grinned.

"Your went for her carrots didn't you?" Tony asked and chugged half his soda. Both girls pulled bad faces as her let out a loud burp.

"Yeah, and that is gross. Hey you want a bologna sandwich in exchange for your orange?" Kari hopefully held up her meal.

"You bet!" Tony rolled the orange across the table and grabbed his prize.

"Eat that, and no kiss for you." Violet pulled a face as Tony took a large bite. "Ok, gross. Why do I date you?"

"I don' know," Tony gulped, "Maybe I'm good looking. Maybe I'm smart. Maybe this is a false reality in which you are stuck, forced to do what I wish. Or maybe," Tony drank some more soda, "I'm just that suave."

Violet snorted and Kari shot apple juice out her nose.

"Nice!" Tony said and thumped Kari on the back.

Violet leaned back for a moment just to catch the moment. Kari sneezing up apple juice, Tony telling her it was awesome. Violet supposed she should relax and enjoy this moment of friendship. She should wonder how she got such cool friends. She could daydream and reminisce on other happy memories. Or think about how in thirty years she'd be saying 'Remember that time when…'

But Violet decided she didn't really feel like it and instead stole Tony's celery sticks.

Oh yeah, she thought, life is good.
