"Can I hear 100 dollars?" The auctioneer called out to the room full of overdone women with way too much spare time.

"One fifty!" A blonde woman called out form the second row.

"Two fifty!" Another woman yelled.

"Three fifty!"

"A thousand!" A young, dark haired girl called out, glaring at the rest of the trophy wives.

"A thousand going once…going twice…" The auctioneer called out. The rest of the women grew quieter. They were sure they would have a hard time explaining a thousand dollars being 'donated' to the Sheriff's Department to their husbands if they asked.

"Sold, to the young woman in the back!"

Lamb laughed as he made his way off the stage and the rest of the department glared at him. Deputy Sacks was the only one who went for higher, since the woman determined on winning him was recently divorced.

"You look sort of young." Lamb observed as he got closer to the girl wearing a nametag simply reading 'Mac'. "Are you even legal?"

"I'm not here to get a date, Sheriff. I have a note from Veronica. She's the one who got me to bid for you." Mac said, handing Lamb an envelope and then turning to leave.

Lamb sighed as he slid his finger under the flap and opened the envelope.

I I bid so I knew you'd have time to investigate the crash. I won't make you actually be seen in public with me if I can get some cold, hard facts.

Veronica /I

As Lamb observed the women who had won the rest of his department fawning over their purchases, he decided this may be the first and last time he was actually grateful for Veronica Mars.
