Just Don't Be Afraid

"Brat! What's wrong with you?"

"Don't call me a brat, asshole!"

"Tell me why you're so pissed!"

Shuichi balled his hands into fists as Yuki shoved him up against the wall, flinching away when Yuki raised his hand up to the singer's face. Seeing Yuki's eyes widen in hurt, Shuichi immediately regretted his reaction and held an unwavering gaze with the dark hardwood floor.

Neither moved for a moment, though Shuichi could feel the anger coming off Yuki in harsh waves, but the novelist suddenly moved closer, putting his lips next to Shuichi's ear. "I highly doubt that making me so terribly angry with you will cure me of stress," he murmured, his voice breathtaking, and Shuichi shivered as Yuki softly kissed his neck to calm him down.

Shuichi still held his gaze with the floor, and Yuki frowned when he drew back to stare at his lover.

"Look at me, you little bastard."

Jerking his head up sharply, the singer looked Yuki in the eye, his sparkling amethyst eyes holding the deepest apology imaginable. "Sorry," he whispered in a small voice as a few locks of his dark pink hair fell into his eyes.

Golden eyes softening, Yuki again reached for and successfully brushed the hair away from the younger boy's face. "You aren't the reason I had to go back to the hospital," Yuki reassured the singer and slowly inched his face toward Shuichi to give him a kiss.

Shuichi's response surprised the novelist, as he was suddenly the one up against the wall, and Shuichi pressed his lips to Yuki's in a bruising kiss. When the singer pulled away, he took a deep breath and put his head against his lover's chest.

"Sorry," he said again as Yuki ran a hand through his messy pink hair, and gripped the novelist's midnight blue shirt as if to say he never wanted to let go.

Yuki rested his chin lightly on Shuichi's head, a small smile crossing his lips since the singer couldn't see him, but he grew serious again when Shuichi looked back up at him.

"Promise me," Yuki said in a low voice, "that you won't ever flinch away from me again."

"Promise!" Shuichi nodded furiously to seal the deal.

"Will you tell me what's bothering you now?"

Shuichi stiffened and burrowed his head against Yuki's chest to mutter something inaudible.

"Hmm?" Yuki narrowed his gold eyes and poked Shuichi's head.

"You already figured it out," Shuichi giggled, reaching up to poke him back on the nose. "And I'm okay now."

Yuki shrugged, thinking, though he didn't press the issue. For a long while the lovers stood holding each other, but when Shuichi suddenly became off balance, Yuki picked him up and carried him to bed. There, they rested beside each other, and Yuki whispered to Shuichi, "Just don't be afraid."

"Never ever…" Shuichi mumbled, half asleep, and he snuggled closer to Yuki, who closed his eyes, allowing sleep to take him with his love in his arms.
