Midnight Encounters

He knew he would find her there. He always did. She would always be curled up into a little ball, her small back leaning against the concrete of the wall, her raven hair concealing the expression on her pale face.

And he would always sit down beside her, close enough to feel her warmth, but far from each other's reach.

On most nights, they would just sit in silence, enjoying the tranquility that came with each other's company, and stare off into the distant moon that shone over the houses of Karakura.

But that night was not one of those nights.

There was a question, nagging at the back of her mind, forcing her to break the silence they so thoroughly enjoyed. She glanced at him then, his orange hair illuminated by the moonlight, his brown eyes content. She noticed the small smile the played his lips.

She didn't want to ruin the moment; there were such rare times that they would both sit in silence, no shouting, no punching.

But the question could not go unanswered.

'Did you take my Chappy?' she whispered, her voice hoarse from- what, exactly? Probably from their daily routine of swearing and shouting at the top of their lungs.

He looked at her then, his brown eyes widening, as he shifted so that he was facing her. He opened his mouth and closed it again, gaping like a gold fish, but she wasn't to have any of his crap.

She stood up, her silhouette casting shadows on the roof top, as she reached for her sword. She pulled it out slowly, enjoying the look of horror, sadness and guilt that swiped across his face as she made her way across the roof.

'I said, did you take my Chappy?'

There was only a couple of feet between them now, and her icy presence chilled him more than the cold night breeze around them.

'I-N- It's not- No...'

Sword cast aside, she lunged for him, her pale hands pulling at his orange hair.

Oh, how she hated his hair.

She could hear the low grumble in his chest as he struggled to pull her off, but she was as stubborn as he was.

And off they went, rolling off the roof, her hands pulling at the corner of his mouth ( SPIT IT OUT, FOOL! ) and his were curled around her slim waist, an attempt to pull her off.

They rolled down and down, their cries and threats echoing throughout the once quiet night, until their roll was coming to an end.

She, being the Kuchiki she was, flipped him over so that she was on top of him, a sly smile on her lips.

He crashed onto the ground, groaning at the impact, and then she came, landing lightly on top of him.

She weighed less than nothing, certainly less than the Zanpacuto he was so used to carrying, but he made an effort to sound as if she weighed more than that, if only to irritate her a little more.

In return, she stomped her foot onto his chest, and muttered something about 'fool can't even hold a girl' and 'weak little piece of crap'.

Stupid Kuchiki.

This was, by far, the most irritating thing the midget had done. He groaned, for real this time, and glanced up at her with one eye.

Oh, how he hated her.

Her black hair was practically glowing purple in the moonlight, and her slim arms were crossed over her chest. Her lips were pulled into a triumphant grin and the purple in her eyes danced with mischief.

She was so small, his Kuchiki, but her 4"9 didn't stop her from beating him into a bloody pulp.

She was so irritating, so bossy, but he would never hate her. Just like he would never stop stealing her Chappy.
