The Mockingjay - A Poem

Katniss entered the Games at the tender age of 16,
Not knowing what was ahead, being from the Seam.

She also didn't know how Peeta really felt,
How much he loved her, how she made his heart melt.

She put the berries to her lips, and ignited a spark,
Which led the way to a rebellion, a way out of the dark.

It had been planned for years, just waiting for the Mockingjay,
And during the Quell, that was when they saw the way.

Off they took her to 13, where she anxiously waited for news of her lover,
Hoping that he was safe, away from the Capitol, hidden under covers.

At first he was fine, all safe and well,
But then his health deteriorated, she could tell.

He began to worsen, barely able to sit straight,
And Katniss the Mockingjay felt it was too late.

For by then they had already put Tracker Jacker venom in his blood,
Which had altered his mind, changed who he was.

When Katniss finally got him back, he put his hands around her neck,
Thinking that she had killed his family, angry for all she'd wrecked.

She never thought she would get back the old Peeta she knew and loved,
But somewhere in the Capitol she had regained his trust and they were at peace, like doves.

And with their completed mission, they captured Snow,

But instead of shooting him, Katniss shot Coin with her bow.

Because Coin had lied to her and was just as bad as her predecessor,
And Katniss didn't want another Hunger Games in which children died in a blur.

And due to that Panem became a peaceful place,
Where people could live in harmony, and faces bright with laughter which replaced any grimace.

This was the perfect world that they had asked for,
Where Katniss was free to raise children without fear anymore.
