"Keith!"
She ran up to the gurney and reached for him. She stifled a gasp upon feeling his cold hand in her own two.
"Keith! Wake up, darling. Please, wake up!"
"Your majesty, I'm sorry, but we must get him into the operating room now." The doctor did his best to gently pry her small hands off the unconscious pilot. But she resisted. "NO! I must stay with him! I must tell him; he needs to know!"
"Please get the queen." The doctor instructed to the other people lined up along the corridor. "We need to tend to his majesty."
Hunk took the brave step forward; awkwardly throwing glances at his comrades hoping that they would do the painful act instead. He knew that no one would dare separate Allura from her husband. But he also knew that Doctor Gorma would not be able to help Keith if she continued to cling to him.
"I know you can hear me." Allura said in almost a whisper. "You can't leave me; you can't die." Tears uncontrollably flowed out of her green eyes. "Keith…"
Before she could finish, she felt a strong hand wrap itself around her arm. "Let them do their job." was all Lance said to her before pulling her away from her beloved.
"NO!" she screamed yet again as she flailed in his grasp. "Keith!" she called out to him; helplessly watching as the medics hurried their steps.
"Allura, calm down." Pidge spoke, his voice breaking as he tried to keep his composure. "He'll be all right. You'll see. He always…"
The young genius trying to soothe the frantic monarch seemed to have gotten Lance's full attention as she was able to remove herself from his iron grip. She ran up to Keith again; before they were able to get the wheeled bed inside. None of the personnel seemed willing to restrain her.
"Keith, I'm pregnant. I just found out this morning." She sniffed; once again taking his hand in hers.
There was a stunned silence among the members of the Force.
Larmina and Vince exchanged glances then fixed their attention at their other companion.
Daniel stood there, a few feet away from the rest of the team. He could not, did not, look anyone in the eye. He knew it was his fault; why Keith was the way he was. He disobeyed yet another order and the king came running to his rescue.
"We're having a baby. You're going to be a father."
Allura felt a hand wrap around her arm once again; gentler, but still strong, nonetheless. This time she didn't resist so much. She had said what she had wanted him to hear.
She turned to face whoever it was who held her and found herself staring into the concerned eyes of her trusted advisor. She threw herself into Coran's chest and cried.
"We're having a baby. You're going to be a father."
Allura's words echoed in Daniel's mind like thunder.
He hung his head in shame. It was because of him that Keith might not meet his child. It was because of him that the baby may not know his or her father.
What have I done?!
It was a lesson that he would never forget.
