Snowfall Memories

Do you remember
That first winter?
The first one we spent together?
How we played in the snow until we couldn't feel our cheeks, chins or noses?
Until our clothes were soaked through to the bone and we were shivering with cold?
How we threw snowballs and you got snow in your ear?
How we fell in the snow and made the shapes of angels?
How after we were done, we went inside
Where you made me hot chocolate, the thick, good stuff with a pile of tiny marshmallows on top?
Do you remember how we would curl up on the couch together and read for hours
While fat white snowflakes fell from a darkened sky?
Do you remember setting up the Christmas tree, that pathetic tree with the lame ornaments?
You cannot know how you brought light into that dark, frozen world of mine.
How would I know that you,
A small stray kitten,
Would come into my life and bring so much….
Happiness?
The winter used to be so dark…
But now… there is so much light.
I watch you while you sleep, one arm curled under your head, knees drawn to your chest, free arm on the floor, still clutching the PlayStation controller.
I draw the blanket over your thin form, smiling as you sigh in your sleep. I walk to my balcony, standing on it, looking over the streets of the city, seeing the Christmas decorations. I smile as the memories come pouring back and I want to wake you to ask you if you remember, but I do not disturb you. I let you sleep.
But when you wake, I shall ask,
Do you remember
That first winter?
And even if you do not….
I do.
And I shall cherish those memories.
And perhaps one day…
I will be able to give them to you.

A/N: A bit of drabble I wrote one day. For … a dear, dear, close friend who means more to me than I can say here, if ever.
It's Kubo thinking about Toki, if you didn't get that. Anyhoo. I rather like it. There is no plot or plan. I just sat down and started writing. And this is what came out. I'm quite satsified. ^^ Enjoy!
You know who you are, my dear friend. And you know what you mean to me.
