Second Blaze
"Are you absolutely sure nothing will go wrong?" The azure reploid eyed the Red Demon nervously.
"Few things in life are certain X. I can not be absolutely sure, but I think there is a better chance of this working than not." The kind old man smiled.
"I know Dr. Cain… I can't stop worrying though; Murphy's Law and we're not exactly dealing with a cute little bunny here."
"Relax X. I believe in second chances. Anyone and everyone can change."
"Can this… thing change?"
"I am almost sure of it. The world changes and adapts, and so do its inhabitants."
Lying in Maverick Hunters Headquarters was the spark that started it all, a mysterious robot who leads an army of the insane on a murderous rampage. The damage was devastating and widespread; no one was spared the wrath of the Red Demon as they were named. Hundreds of thousands of lives were ended in the matter of weeks. Nobody knew where this monster came from, and who created them. The accidents occurred exactly one year, to the second, after the insane criminal mastermind Dr. Wily was put to death. Some thought that the demon was a sleeper agent for the deranged doctor, but there never was any proof. Anyone who tried to study the blood-red monster was quickly taken care of.
"Are you still sure that enough will go right? There's still that bit we can never see as data."
"I have not been wrong yet, have I X?"
A day later, brilliant sapphire eyes opened again, a far cry from the demonic, blood-red eyes that were shown on surveillance cameras. For a mass-murderer, the android seemed so innocent, like a child that just awoke from a horrible nightmare.
"Good morning." Dr. Cain spoke softly like a person would to a terrified creature.
"Who are you?" Innocent eyes were filled with confusion.
"I am Doctor Cain and this is X. Do you know anything about yourself?"
"Only my name… Zero."
"Then welcome Zero, to our family."
