Luna flew in toward Canterlot. She was grumpy because her patrol had taken much longer than she'd expected so she was tired and now she also had to fly into the sun. The sun was Celestia's pet project but she found it oppressive, overly bright and hot.
She landed in the courtyard and a young filly skipped by. "Morning, Princess!"
Luna nodded to her and hurried on to see Celestia.
"Good morning, Luna. How was your night?"
"Difficult. But nothing was out of the ordinary that I could see."
A pony was pouring tea for Celestia. She turned to Luna. "Good morning, Princess. Would you like some?"
"Yes…thank you." Luna accepted the tea as politely as she could but as the servant walked away she grumbled "I don't see how anypony can be so cheerful so early in the morning."
Celestia chuckled. "Now, now. We aren't all part bat like you."
Luna rolled her eyes and yawned.
"So the wedding's today. Will you be coming?"
"I will be at the reception. That's the best part."
"The ceremony's not till noon."
"You know it's almost impossible to wake me by then. Besides, I've heard you give long winded speeches before." She chuckled.
"Alright, alright." Celestia laughed too. "Off to bed with you."
Luna dreamed of the wedding reception. All the ponies were dancing and eating. Cadence was so happy. Everything was wonderful. Then all the ponies started stomping their hooves. At first she thought they were just applauding the happy couple but the sound grew louder and louder until it was like somepony pounding on her head.
She opened her bleary eyes, just realizing she was in bed.
"Princess! ! ! Princess, please open up! ! !" Somepony was shouting and pounding on the door.
Luna growled and disengaged the magical lock and threw the door open. "The kingdom had best be under attack to justify this commotion! ! !"
"Um, the-the kingdom's under attack, your majesty." The guard at the door said meekly.
Luna groaned and slumped back onto the pillow. "'Twas only a joke. Now what do you want?"
Before he could respond a second guard burst into the room and tackled him.
She just stared at them for a moment, trying to figure out what was going on. "Why are palace guards wrestling in my bed chamber in the middle of the day? ? ?" She moaned to nopony in particular. Her sleep fogged brain just couldn't make any sense of this.
Nopony answered but the guard on top seemed to have gained the advantage and now looked up at Luna and hissed.
She was looking into her own face.
"I HAVE HAD ENOUGH! ! !" She bellowed. With one mighty push she hurled both intruders out of the room and slammed the door. "NO MORE TEA BEFORE BED! ! !"
In a moment the crazy dream was gone and she was again dancing under the moon.
