A/N: Hey guys! I was re-watching Naruto (Who wouldn't!) and like a dozen story ideas popped into my head. I had a tough time picking which one to write with first.
Anyway, Naruto in this story is a female. Her character will be like the original Naruto (I don't really like it that much when people greatly change the personality based on the gender).
The story starts at the end of the battle between Naruto and Sasuke.
The main genre is family/friendship, but there is some romance as well. I hope you like it!
Neither Naruto nor Sasuke could turn their necks to see the pinkette jump towards them, but they could feel her presence. She gave a small gasp at the sight of them, though no one could really blame her. Both were a bloody mess, with bruises and cuts, blood rushing out through their ripped clothes, and the gaping hole where one of their arms was supposed to be.
Nevertheless, wordlessly, her hands lighted up and she began focusing and forcing her chakra to flow through. She didn't have much chakra left after their previous battle so she needed to effectively and precisely use and conserve her chakra so she could at least get her friends out of life-threatening danger.
"Sakura-chan," Naruto smiled, her voice wavering, barely a whisper. It was very unusual seeing that Naruto only had one volume and that was mega loud.
She shook her head, motioning for her to be quiet.
"I'm sorry," Sasuke said, seeing the tears forming on her face.
"You don't have to be sorry for anything. I just wish...things could have been different."
"What are you talking about? If things were different, it wouldn't be us, dattebayo!"
Her silent cries turned audible. "Damn..."
"Everything that happened...everyone we've lost...everything they've sacrificed. They've made us who we are. It would dishonor them for us to wish we could wipe it away."
"I...I know", Sakura said, wiping the tears of her face.
Her crying face, Naruto's grinning one, his solemn one. Three different faces.
A tan one with oceanic blue eyes and messy, blond pigtails.
A pale one, with dark black hair and the darkest of eyes.
A creamy one, with emerald eyes and cherry blossom hair.
Nothing in common. Nothing, but their memories. Symbol of their bond. These memories flooded the three's brains.
The day team 7 was established, their first mission, the land of waves, the Chunnin exams...nostalgia.
But before they delved into them, more pressing matters faced them.
"It's about time we undo the Infinite Tsukoyomi, isn't it? Unless, you can't resist your thriving urge to kill me, of course," Naruto joked.
Sasuke shrugged, "I think I can wait...just a little while. Until you become annoying again."
"So..you're saying I'm not annoying?"
"I didn't say that."
"Uh..yeah, you kind of did, dattebayo. And everyone calls me the dumb one?"
"Well, you're annoying me now."
"So you still admit that I wasn't annoying a second ago?"
Sasuke rolled his eyes. With a lot of effort-and pain- he leaned over his other arm and had it face her. "Just make the sign, Usuratonkachi"
She grinned, that irresistible grin that no one wasn't susceptible towards. "You got it, Teme."
It was strange, how much power was carried in one hand sign. The combination of them. Two hands which no one thought would unite.
He stared at her. He knew she had saved many. He'd heard people say that her greatest talent was making friends. He'd heard people say she had comparatively, the best eyes.
Maybe it was the touch of her hand against his. Maybe it was because he was thinking straight for the first time in a while, but he understood.
He'd never believed it...never understood it until now. Now that she had pulled him from the darkness, cleared his eyes. He could now understand why people like Gaara, Sakura, Kakashi, Nagato, and even Itachi, his own brother, put their faith in her.
It was strange, but for the first time in his life, Sasuke felt as if he was looking at something clearly. The haziness, the invisible dark aura, gone. For the first time in years, he felt calm. At peace. At home.
He'd wondered, once or twice when he was younger, what he would do after he took his revenge. He'd wondered where his home would be. Then Orochimaru came along and revenge was the only thing on his mind. But, back then, he had wondered. And it took him until now to find his home.
It was here. With her.
She was his friend.
She had always believed it, and now he did too. Or maybe deep down, he always knew. Maybe that's why he truly left the village. It wasn't her strength he didn't want to acknowledge, it was their bond.
But why? Why didn't he want to acknowledge it? Why?
If he had, things would have been so much easier...
"Oi! Teme? Are you alive? I think you're alive...you don't seem very dead. Plus, if you're dead I'm sure you're gazillion fangirls would drown us in their tears."
"Shut up, Naruto or I'll pound you until you die!"
"Looks like one is here right now," Naruto muttered softly.
"Naruto, he could seriously be injured or something!"
"Relax, he didn't respond to like one sentence. It's nothing new." She said it with a twinge of resentment.
Sasuke blinked twice, clearing his thoughts.
"Sasuke-kun? Are you okay? Did you hear us?"
The two of them were standing up, ready to leave.
"Sorry, I had other things on my mind."
Naruto rolled her eyes.
"We're going to join the rest of the force. Then, we're going home."
"Naruto!" Hinata ran up to them as soon as they popped into her byakugan's line of vision. "Are you okay?!" she breathed, grabbing her shoulders and pulling her into a hug.
Naruto grinned. "Relax, I'm fine.", Naruto said, while awkwardly patting her shoulder with one arm.
Sakura had stopped the bleeding, but the throbbing sensation didn't cease.
Hinata then turned her head to acknowledge Sasuke's presence. "Are you okay as well?"
He nodded, surprised she had even talked to him. He didn't expect her too.
By this time, the others started circling them too.
"Naruto, Sakura!"
"Oi! You're back!"
"Next time, I'll fight you!"
"Can we go home now! I'm hungry!"
"Look's like the old team's back."
At first Naruto was paying attention to them, but her concentration was never really strong. Her eyes scanned the distance and she spotted a young guy stumbling around, obviously dazed after waking up.
He was stumbling very closely to the edge of a cliff. Her instincts shot in and ignoring the pain shooting through her weak bones, she ran towards him. "Watch out!"
She could feel someone...probably Sasuke...running after her. With her one good arm, she managed to catch the guy before he fell. Unfortunately, she also began to fall.
Luckily for her, someone...again, probably Sasuke...caught her leg and prevented her fall.
"What on earth are you two doing!" Sakura's high voice rang out. When Sasuke managed to pull Naruto and the other person back on to land, they turned to look at her. But oddly, everyone's eyes were on them.
"He was falling of a cliff. We got him out." Naruto said, confused.
Sakura stared at her as if she lost her mind. "What cliff."
"The one right there!" she said, pointing to the huge gaping hole in the ground.
Sakura's face turned into concern. "Is this a side-effect of over-exhaustion?" she muttered to herself.
Sasuke frowned. "She's not delusional. It's right there."
Her eyes widened. "Not you too. Maybe I should have Lady Tsunade look at you. I'm out of chakra..."
"Sakura! Cliff. There. Look! Granny doesn't have to be b-", Naruto started, but was caught off by the sudden impossibility to move her mouth.
Naruto felt her legs turn into lead. Her knees buckled and she fell down, her blond hair strewn over her face. Her eyes shut.
"Naruto!" she heard the mingled cries of her friends. She could hear some shuffling noise, but the sound was slowly dying.
She heard another thud and the world went black.
