Yay, my first fanfic on here! Sorry it's so short. It's just a one shot. Any feed back is appreciated! Thanks! :)
It had only been a few days since Jack Frost had risen from the icy depths of the frozen lake; a few days since he found that he had pure white hair, along with the ability to make frost appear with the slightest touch. He was still confused, lonely, and scared-though he hated to admit it. He didn't know where to go or what to do. He just wandered aimlessly, a million questions running through his mind at once.
On this particular day, he decided he would go down to the lake where he once drifted. He wasn't sure why; it felt as though he were drawn to it by something. He roamed through the snow-adorned forest, lazily dragging his staff along the trees as he walked, leaving a thin trail of frost on the bark. He broke through the woods, appearing at the edge of the lake. The water was still solid at the surface. A light wind picked up, whistling through the branches. Jack's eyebrows furrowed into a frown.
He wasn't alone.
A little girl knelt at the edge of the water, clutching a single flower like it was a lifeline. Her eyes were squeezed shut, and shivers wracked her body. Her breaths came out in puffs. The ends of her dress were drenched from the snow. She didn't seem to care. Jack approached her slowly. He crouched next to the girl, a little disappointed when she didn't notice him. Her brown hair clung to her blotchy, tear-stained cheeks, and her eyes slowly opened to reveal that they were bloodshot. She opened her mouth, inhaling deeply.
"Hi, Jack," she murmured, her voice barely audible. Confusion rose in Jack again. She couldn't have been talking to him, could she? No one knew who he was. No one could see him. His lips pursed into a thin line as he waited for her to say something else. She timidly tossed the flower onto the ice with trembling fingers. "I brought you a flower. I'm sorry it's not much. But it was the best I could find," she squeaked. Jack stared at her with wide eyes, anticipating her next move. There was a long, agonizing pause.
"I-I know it was so long ago, but I miss you more every day," she looked out onto the ice, crossing her arms against the cold. Her breathing grew rapid. "I miss playing hopscotch and hide-and-seek! I miss your jokes! I even miss your tricks! I miss my big brother!" the last words came out in a distressed wail. She was overcome with sobs. She buried her face into her hands. Jack's heart ached for the girl. He felt attached to her in some strange way, yet he couldn't quite place it. Meekly, he reached a hand out to her.
"Hey, hey, it's going to be okay," he whispered, forgetting she couldn't hear him. She continued to weep, not sensing his presence. Jack looked down in anguish. All he wanted to do at the moment was help her. The wind picked up around them. The girl lifted her head, her lips trembling. Her big brown eyes fell right on where he was sitting. Jack felt his heart beat rise. It was almost as if she was looking at him. His hopes were shattered as she blinked and looked away. She sat there for a little while longer, and he stayed with her. As she rose from her spot to reluctantly leave, Jack vowed that he would always be there for this girl.
