A New Game

Prologue

It was over before it started. The game had been set and the pieces placed. Everything had played its part to perfection, yet the outcome was not what he had envisions. The Hogyoku had made sure of that. It had seen what laid deep within his heart hidden from even himself and acted on those impulses. Aizen smirked. Even though the Hogyoku had recognized him as its master it still contained a will of its own. Thus the situation he found himself in.

No his ever present smiled widen by a fraction no it wasn't a situation it was just a mere eventuality that could easily be overpassed. Something the Hogyoku had allowed to happen for the single purpose of making the game more interesting. After all conquering Soul Society had been too easy. As his steps echoed through the empty streets of Seireitei, Aizen made his way towards the hall where the captains used to gather. Once there he sat where the Captain- Commander once sat little more than a year ago before meeting his end at the hands of Wonderwise. A pity the boy had died as well, but it had been a seen and affordable causality. One more he would easily comply with to achieve his goal.

The shinigami had been naïve and blind to believe him so myopic. The battle of Karakura town had been a simple distraction, one meant to lure Soul Society's most powerful fighters away from Seireitei. Opening the possibility for the unhappy souls of the lower rokongi to rise and rebel against their so called oppressors, that and a number of hollows, Gillian class and above, had been enough to send the orderly city to its knees. Like maggots overpowering a majestic bird. Aizen mussed. Such simple minded fools. It had only taken a well-placed push and a warm smile to set the masses loose against the shinigami.

The few that had survived the "revolution" lived to see the people hail Sosuke Aizen as their King and savior. The Captains and Lieutenants that had managed to survive their fights against his Espadas and the remaining shinigami had hid themselves around the world plotting a counter attack. Foolish though it was Aizen couldn't help but widen his smile for the second time, the Hogyoku had let them live in order to fulfill his wish. After all, a lack of opposition would only lead to boredom and cut the game short, plus opposition was also necessary to push forth evolution.

The unhappiness of the rukongi districts however, was not the only thing the shingami had been blind to. No in fact it was their blindness to the human world that truly sealed their fate. They had believed Karakura to be the only town with 100,000 souls and a plot of spirit-enriched land with a radius of a half spirit-mile; when in fact another such town existed a diameter away from it. So as the shingami fought in vain to protect Karakura, Aizen had assured this vital ingredient to the King's Key elsewhere. The condensation of which now laid in his pocket.

So in this sense everything had gone according to plan. It was what he needed now that hadn't. The next ingrediants.

"Ulquiorra," Aizen addressed his faithful Quatro as he walked through the hall. "Find Kuchiki Rukia and bring her."

"Yes Aizen-Sama." And with a bow he left.

For even though the Hogyoku recognize him as its Master, it recognized another as its retainer.
