Chapter 1
School Days
The young man looked about the many newcomers streaming in from the newly built train station in front of the Smash Mansion. Naturally, he just shrugged off every single one of them as their transport left. He sat at the grounds near a beautiful fountain, sketching the newcomers; the water creating a rainbow cascading towards the new Smashers. He sighed in content as many passed by him to their temporary home, not minding the emo haired, black hoodie and crimson 'V' neck sporting teen. The pencil within his hand quickly zoomed from one corner of his sketchbook to the other as two blue and white combat boots stepped into his peripheral vision. The being wearing those boots leaned against the fountain above the young man; also blocking the sun from his page.
"Hello, there." A young, feminine voice came from the figure.
The man looked up to see his greeter. She had silky, chocolate brown hair tapering down at her shoulders with a hint of red highlights. Underneath her purple goat lay a grey toga with a silver clasp holding it together. Two grey wings stuck out from the young girls' back, the feathers being ruffled in the slight breeze. At this time, only a handful of new Smashers stayed within the courtyards, with the two near the fountain included.
To the girl's question, the young man stood up, nearly a foot taller than her.
"Serena Icarus?" the young man mumbled.
"Why yes!" the girl beamed, hugging the boy earning her a loud grunt, "You must be the boy mom and dad always talk about!"
"W-Well yes," the man sighed, trying to get the girl off of him, "S-So where's your cousin?"
"O-Oh, you mean Storm?"
"Hey, Vincent!" another feminine voice called to the duo.
Turning around, Serena and the boy take a good took at the young woman running towards them. Violet hair tied in a pony-tail and a green bandana flew in the wind. Pearl white armor covered most of the woman as she was carried on by purple and white iron tipped boots. The woman takes more than a minute to get to the two people at the fountain waiting for him and once she gets to her destination, she panted like a dog.
"Storm Greil," Vincent shyly spoke, "G-Great to meet you again…"
"W-What was that, Vincent?" Storm panted, "I-I couldn't h-hear you…"
"N-Never mind," came the young man's reply, his cheeks red as a tomato.
As Serena was about to speak, a portal made of darkness and flames arose behind Vincent. From its bowels emerged a man, who looked very much like Vincent. His hair was the same, save for the red tips on his bangs. His amber eyes burned with the ferocity of a thousand suns, yet were as cold as liquid nitrogen. The being wore a jet black cloak, with the ends acting like dark flames, eternally burning upwards. Serena and Storm paled when they saw the figure walk towards Vincent and hug him tightly.
"Good luck, son," Shinigami warmly spoke, "I have very high hopes for you this year."
"Mph!" Vincent reddened, "N-Not in front of the girls."
"I see, I see," Shinigami smiled, "I remember when I courted your mom. She was very beautiful; Dark hair as silky as velvet, very nice body, eyes as red as yours."
Vincent was at this point, very embarrassed as Serena and Storm laughed silently.
"Storm, Serena and you are going to be in the same classes, I presume?"
"D-Dad!"
"Yes, Shinigami, sir," Storm smiled, "We'll be best friends in our classes!"
"Well then! I shall see you all in a few short hours," Shinigami smirked, stepping back into his portal, leaving the trio in the courtyard.
"So," Serena smirked, "Your dad is interesting as always."
Vincent groaned as he led the other two into the Mansion. Inside, the rest of the Smashers stood on a stage above the new arrivals, standing ever powerful as they were years ago. The Mario Bros stood ever ready for a new adventure, right beside their beloved princess and their mortal Koopa enemy, who ignited a series of lights around the Smashers. Link, Zelda and Ganondorf raised their hands into the air, showcasing the Triforce. The others revealed their attacks and weapons to the newcomers' amazement and awe. Pit and Ike see their children and smile at each other.
"They'll be great this year," Pit whispered to his friend.
"Unsurprisingly so," Ike smiles.
Finally, appearing out of thin air, Master Hand appears over his Smashers, and faces the new fighters.
"Welcome to the Smash Mansion!" the disembodied hand boomed.
The audience cheered at the hand's announcement, apart from Vincent who was leaning upon a marble pillar.
"This year, we are not only holding the Smash Tournament. We are also a school."
The audience looked amongst each other with confused eyes, which Vincent silently laughed at.
"We shall be training each and every one of you to be fighters and warriors! Your teachers: None other than the Smashers themselves!"
The Mansion shook with cheers abound as Master Hand described the school year to come. An hour passes as the new trainees run among the long carpeted halls of the Mansion, looking for the rooms that they are staying in. Vincent minded none of them and simply went straight towards a hallway with only three doors; two on the left and right respectively, and one in the middle. The young man walks right towards the one in the centre, and enters his room. The entire place was painted dark, save for the luminescent wirings abound. His accommodations were already there: a furnished kitchen and bathroom, a luxurious bedroom, a spacious living room with a large screen TV and a small den with books, drawings and a desk, all to Vincent's own usage.
"I have all this yet I am still alone," the man sighed.
He sulks to his small den near his bed and opens a blank book, takes out a pencil, and writes within its covers.
Dear Diary,
Today was the first day of the Tournament/School that my Dad and Mom set up with Master Hand. It's been over sixteen years since This World had been attacked by anyone, yet no one can still be sure. I only laugh at the others' amazement at the fact that they are being moulded into tiny soldiers. But I cannot laugh that my love is here. Her life is much more important than anyone's here. I cannot see her die because she was too weak…
Just like Dad and Mum back in the days…
That's it for now. Good da-
A loud knock came from the boy's door. Groaning, Vincent walks up to the entrance and opens it, to see Storm in her regular clothing: a short sleeved blue hoodie and brown cargo pants. Vincent only tried not to stare at his crushes' large rack as he blushed harder.
"H-Hey, Storm."
"Hey, Vincent," Storm smiled, hugging the young man, "I never got a chance to hug you when we met at the station."
"Angh!" Vincent cringed as his pants suddenly tightened, "T-Thank you, Storm."
"No problem! It's time for our first class of the year! Please don't be late."
"I-I won't!"
With that, Storm leaves a very red cheeked Vincent, blushing to the point of a small nose bleed. The son of Death Incarnate quickly grabs a tissue and cleans his nose. He wipes a stream of sweat off of his forehead and slumped down onto the floor as the girl poked her head back to see Vincent.
"Nice abs, by the way!" Storm called out cheerily.
Vincent only gaped at his crushes' statement.
"You have abs?" another feminine voice called from behind the young man.
The young Reaper turns to see Serena standing in his dark room, holding in her hand a diary: His diary. Vincent lunged at the girl, for her to glide up and the reaper to fall onto the ground underneath her.
"I knew you liked Storm but this just takes the cake!" Serena laughed as she flipped through the pages of the young man's diary, "And oh, what's this? A picture of her in the shower?"
"S-Stop! Give it back!" Vincent whined.
"Aweh! Your parents called you Kuro as a boy! That's cute!"
"I said stop!"
"Meh, I'll stop teasing," Serena sighed as she floated back onto the ground and gave back the Reaper's diary, who held it in a tight hug, "And you should really open up to her."
"W-What? I'm open to her!" Vincent pouted.
"And you have to be less nervous, Kuro! Let your emotion for her flow and give her your all," Serena smiled, laying a hand on her friend, "And tell her you love her."
"S-She's oblivious to everything I do that tells her I love her," Vincent sighed, a tear falling from his eye.
"Hey, you'll get her one day. Now we have to go! Maybe you'll get her attention in our class. C'mon!"
"O-Okay."
Vincent put his diary off to the side and locked down his room. He follows the angel off to his first class of the year, intent on getting into Storm's love life once and for all.
