When You Say Nothing At All
It was never there, and then suddenly it came out, in a look, a scowl, a word of confidence, an insult even.
It was never said, but it always felt better when they said nothing at all, because everything turned into an argument.
When harsh green eyes met kind yet stern hazel ones, it was there, and then at night she'd break down and sob, and he'd hold her in his arms, but he'd never say anything, because it was there and it didn't need to be said, and it would ruin everything.
It works better when he says nothing at all, he knows.
She was always afraid to say anything, because she knew it could be trashed, blown over as easily as a feather. He had a tendency to run away when things got tough, but he knew she'd follow him and say nothing. She knew that he'd follow her, through the laughter, and the tears, which were more common that the former.
It worked best when she said nothing at all. That way she couldn't get hurt.
When she came running to him in the morning, after her nightmares had finally left her, and the tremors had calmed down, he never said anything, because it hurt her if he ever brought it up.
When she heard him whispering something in his sleep, one of those nights where it thankfully didn't come to her, she turned over and listened, only to find him saying Luz's name, painfully.
She turned over.
"You said her name." she said.
"You say his." he retorts. "And Nico's. And Ketty's."
She turned away again, as usual.
This is why you say nothing, she reminds herself. You get hurt.
This is why you say nothing, he thought to himself. You hurt her.
Their feelings were there, definitely. Lying way beneath the surface, whispering in the dark, contained because of years of hurt, betrayal and pain.
Their love couldn't be taken, because it wasn't there.
On the nights they held each other, they said nothing.
Yes, it was better if they said nothing at all.
If they spoke, what would they say?
And that is from listening to Coldplay (Viva La Vida), The Killers (Runaways), My Chemical Romance (Helena), Youngblood Hawk (We Come Running) and Skillet (Whispers In the Dark). Hope you like this, and I don't own The Medusa Project.
