Charac the Horned Lizard
Charac was a desert horned lizard a Phrynosoma platyrhinos to be exact and he was proud of it. He was born o a family of 12 in a litter of 8, but in 22 months he became mature and soon left his family but already 6 had left and been away for a long time so it was not so bad. Now he was 10 and had about 5-10 years left of life it had been about 7 years since he left his family and didn't miss them much. He had move north from his family's domain in a very rocky bit of desert to a more sandy bit.
Now back to his present life he woke up this morning and dug himself out from the burrow he had been living in for the time being. He checked the vicinity for enemies as he walked out no vultures, hawks, snakes, Fennec foxes or lost bobcat. It was very funny when his older brother Hastax had walk out of his family burrow once and as he checked off everything on his enemies list when a bobcat that certainly wasn't on his list jumped out at him he was so scared he shot back whining and crying for mercy. He walk a little way and buried himself and waited eventual a bug walked past him a nice and juicy big beetle that would give him sufficient water for today but not enough food. He wriggled out of the sand just as the beetle was passing and scoffed it down now he had to go to look for more food.
He was lucky heading East it had brought him to a big ant mound on the edge of the desert he didn't know that he was this close to the edge of the sand beyond the sand was a grassland. He buried himself for the second time today and it was not long before a few hundred ants were in his stomach and he decided he had eaten enough and returned to his burrow for the night. When he he was ready in the morning he went the at hill but he was so happy to have a whole anthill to himself he forgot to check for enemies. a big sidewinder slid up to him and was about to deliver the coup de grace when he saw it. He puffed himself up to scare the snake away the flinched but did not turn away. "All right if thats the way you want it" said Charac" You can have it, bonzi" he yelled as he shot blood circulating though his head in a jet stream out his eye at the snake. The snake decided not to attack this dangerous enemy and slithered away. When Charac got back to his burrow after eating many ants he felt a feeling it was time to highbernation for the cold days to come so he went all the way back to the anthill and ate as many as he could then dug a hole nearby and went to sleep.
