There were so many things that she wanted to say to him. So many words bubbled up inside of her and yet, it was always just one word that came out. One stupid, vague, useless word that made absolutely no sense unless you thought about it really hard. Of course, he always pretended that he knew what she meant. He'd go on and on about something that, in reality, had absolutely nothing to do with what she had said. It was so frustrating that there was no way that they could actually hold a true conversation. With the sheer amount that he spoke next to the two words per day that she would say, neither could get anything significant across to the other person. She wanted so badly to just tell him that, yes she would love to go to the movies with him and that she quite enjoyed spending time with him but she had to go now and she'd see him tomorrow at school. Instead she just muttered a quick goodbye and ran off. It must have been the way he looked at her that tore all sense of eloquence from her. He always had that devilish smirk planted firmly on his face; after seeing it, she could barely even get out that one word. After they parted ways she could always feel her heart beating faster than it normally would and her face felt hot. It sometimes made her wonder if he knew more about her than she thought he did.

He always marveled at how she seemed so oblivious as to how much she scared him. He would always have the entire conversation planned out. He would walk up to her, say something cool like, hey are you doing anything tonight? How about a movie? And she'd say yes and they would go to the movies and he'd look all Rico Suave she'd never think any less of him. Of course, they never turned out that way. He would start off with the question and feel so confident that this time, this time he wouldn't make a fool of himself in front of her again. This time, he was gonna play it cool and it would all turn out fine. But once she would say her one-word reply, all of his self-assuredness would fly out the window and he'd be stuck blabbering on and on about something stupid and he was never able to tell her exactly what he wanted to say. She would look away with that indifference of hers and he would just keep talking. During the movie was no problem however. They would sit in silence and watch, and every once in a while he would glance over at her and she would have that bored look on her face. He'd panic for a little bit, but eventually he'd calm down and watch the movie for a little while longer before looking back at the girl sitting next to him. Afterwards though she would leave in a hurry and he'd still be standing there, feeling so stupid and promising himself that next time, it would be better. No idiocy next time, no foolishness. He'd play it cool and get the girl because that was how it was supposed to be. That was how it always went in the movies at least.
