Note from the Author- Hope you enjoy my story, and review it when you're done!
Lauren had always wanted to be a pirate. She had the guts and she was the farthest thing away from scared. She was a true tomboy at heart. And when she heard that the Black Pearl was coming back to Tortuga, she would be ready to go.
Of course, she did wonder about what would happen if they caught her being a girl. But the best excuse would be to wear clothes that looked like a men's.
To give you a little back round about Lauren, she wasn't the richest girl in town, actually she was quite poor. She lived by herself in a small hut, about 5 miles away from the sea. Lauren was an orphan, she never even remembered her parents once… and I couldn't tell you how many times she had tried to remember. Even though she was 18 years old, she still got advice and information from a shopkeeper in the town, and his name was William.
William and Lauren were such good friends. They could tell each other everything. Lauren knew about his girlfriend Elizabeth. She sounded like a wonderful girlfriend for him… or maybe even a wife someday. But the good part was that she wasn't jealous at all. They thought of each other as siblings; no more, no less. Lauren even looked a little like him! That was the scary part. Neighbors always asked if they were separated at birth.
William was the one who told Lauren about the Black Pearl and all of its treasures and mysteries. Once in a while, Lauren could afford the warm fresh cookies that William's girlfriend had made just for the store.
On Lauren's birthdays, William would give her small books of pirate stories and myths. But he said that they were all true, no lies. He said that the first story in the book was about his very own father… Of course, Lauren didn't know where to begin. She found herself giggling while walking home some days when William had mentioned his "father".
William worked at a shop where he made swords or he repaired them. So once in a while Lauren and William had little sword fights to pass the time. One day after Lauren bought a dozen of some fresh baked cookies from William's shop, Lauren was just about to go when William called her over.
"Lauren," He said. "I know that we're really good friends, so I want for you to call me Will, ok?"
"Sure, I'll do that. But please, just one more time, William."
She left that day feeling more trust in him than usual. But she only liked him as a brother. Besides, he had already had a girlfriend.
But then one day Will left, and it had seemed that everyday was as murky and terrible as Lauren's heart felt. Will had never even told her where she was going. She was crying and crying for days. Lauren missed his stories about where his father had done, and what he had seen. She knew it was all make believe, but Lauren still thought that he was an excellent story teller.
"I hope he's with his dad, or Elizabeth. I hope they've gotten married…" Lauren started crying and she couldn't go to sleep. She began to wonder about her dad, and where he was. She didn't even know her last name!
It was just then when Lauren saw a ship, with black sails and it was coming closer…
