The day was less than pleasant today. It was just one of those days when everything goes in a daily routine like every other day. Nothing exciting happens, and even getting together with friends can be a hassle, because you know you'll do the exact same thing you did last week.
That's how Gwen felt. Motionless, she stared aimlessly at her television set, hoping for the day to end quickly, just because it was so dull. Gwen eyed the clock. 'It's almost 10:00,' Her roommate had better be home soon.
She lived in a small apartment, with barely enough room for her things. It was all she could afford after her previous fame on the hit Canadian television show. She had some money saved up, because she wanted to transfer from the community college to an art college she always wanted to go to. So, the apartment was cramped and messy, but it was her home.
"Well, nice to see you're comfortable, sweetheart."
Gwen's roommate was standing in the doorway, with a happy grin on his face.
"You're late, Duncan."
"Sorry, but, you know, I was looking for a job, and i got a bit sidetracked..- look! I got us some dinner!"
He held up a bag of food from the local chinese pick-up a few blocks away.
"I am not in the mood to eat," Gwen fell back down on the couch. She was tired. She worked hard in school, and then had a job to manage in order to afford her apartment. Duncan was just a stay-at-home-and-lie-around kind of guy. With many urging, he only recently began looking for a job, to please Gwen. But, as it turns out, no one wants to hire a slacker with multiple piercings and a green mohawk.
Duncan sat down next to her. "Please, Gwen. I got your favorite. You know you want to eat it," he chimed. Gwen sat up.
"Today has just been a boring day, Duncan. I might just keel over and die."
"But, then who will pay for the apartment for me? Heaven knows I can't. And won't."
"Thanks Duncan. Your words inspire me."
"No problem, sweetheart." He put his arm around her. "Plus, just you watch. Tomorrow can end up being an awesome day!"
Gwen laughed at him. "Yeah, right. I have school tomorrow." Duncan turned her to face him.
"You should ditch. Then me and you can go around town and live it up, you know? You need and definatly deserve time off. Relax, take a break, perk up a little! Just don't go to school tomorrow."
"Duncan! I can't ditch! What if I miss an important lesson?"
"Who cares? Like you're gunna use most of that for art school. You're already a great artist. Community college has nothing on that!"
She smiled. Somehow, he always knew what to say. "Thanks Duncan."
"I'll call in sick for you. I expect to see your face still here tomorrow morning." Duncan laughed.
"Okay, Duncan. Tomorrow better be a blast." She embraced her delinquent partner. He always brightened her day, no matter what he said or did. He had that effect on her. The end of her boring day turned out to be a happy night.
Duncan opened up his bag. "Ok, I'm starving! Your blabbering kept me from my food!" He was also a very considerate roommate.
