Soft steps echoed quietly through a dimly lit corridor. Doors creaked on both sides, and he knew that his door would open soon.
Thick titanium shackles connected to iron chains bound him to a concrete door and a shock collar restricted his breathing anytime he moved his head. Shifting carefully, he ignored whoever stepped through the door in favor of trying to get comfortable.
"Poor little pet trapped and in shackles, how will you escape this time?" The man's voice was smooth and dripped with poisonous honey with a hint of lust. A thin, pale hand cupped his cheek and forced him to look into the snake;s gold eyes, "Your little friends aren't coming to save you. They don't even know that you're gone." The man caressed the captive's lips with his thumb, "And Sasuke could care less... Have I actually broken you, dear Naruto? You seem so quiet." The snake actually looked disappointed until he saw the smile on his captive's lips.
"I don't break." He blinked startled by how rough his own voice was, but he continued on, "I will never break, even when I'm dead, but..." He could tell that the snake was now hanging on his every word, "I have come to an understanding of how you think, Lord Orochimaru."
"Oh, do tell, my dear pet. I'm sure you will make this interesting at the least " The snake sat in front of him and moved his pale hand from Naruto's lips in favor of playing with the blonde's nipple, "How do I think, Naruto?"
A sly smile slid across the blonde's lips, "You think you can force submission by demonstrating your power. You think that immortality is the only way accomplish anything, but you're wrong..." He licked his lips to wet them as continued, "Trying to rule by fear... By manipulation, it will never work. They will hate you, detest you, and they will rise against you." He grinned at the glaring snake, "They will rise and fight. You may win the battle, but you will never win the war." He coughed when he felt Orochimaru's fist drive int his stomach. Blood dripped form his lips as he smirked weakly, "This... This only proves.. that you know... we will win."
The snake stood and looked down at the boy, resentment burning in his eyes, "Pathetic child.. You know nothing. You're stil in your fantasy world where people will respect you." He knelt back down and slammed him against the wall by his throat. He leaned close to his ear whispering, "They will never respect you or love you.. You're a demon, a monster, a disgrace in their eyes." He chuckled when the boy tensed, "You know it's true.. Why do you fight so hard when it is impossible for a demon like you to succeed?" He pulled away and froze seeing tears and burning determination in the blonde's blue eyes.
Smiling sadly at the formally great Sanin, "You really want to know why I try so hard?" His voice cracked a little in how soft it was, "I try because I don't know how to give up. I try because it is my ninja way to never give up!" He choked a little as his injuries started catching up to him, "I try because I believe everyone has good.. in them... Because... I want to save Sasuke... I want to help everyone who... who was tempted by power..." He slumped losing all of his strength. I would have fell forward if not for Orochimaru holding him by the neck, "I want to save... even you..."
The snake stared at the boy who fell unconscious. He let go of his neck and laid him down on the floor. He brushed back the blonde's bangs from his eyes, "You are something, Naruto..." He stood and walked toward the door, but before he walked out, he glanced back, "You will be the only person I will ever regret killing..."
He stood on top of Manda's head looking out as the Leaf Nin destroyed his army of thousands compared to their fifty or so. He knew he was defeated when they all surrounded him. He lowered himself from Manda's head and looked over them. He saw fire burning in every one's eyes and a swirl on each of their arms. Even Sasuke had betrayed him as he stood between his teacher and pink haired teammate. He looked at Tsunade who walked up to him. He let Manda go and faced her.
"Orochimaru, I hereby place sentence you to die-" She started then paused when the clouds parted and a circle of light surrounded the convicted felon.
Orochimaru looked up into the light letting its warmth was over him, "Is this your last gift, Naruto?" His voice was soft but it seemed everyone ehard him. A soft wind blew around everyone then wrapped around him. He closed his eyes and bowed his head, "There's no need to protect me, Naruto. I will face my sins head on." The wind hit him hard in the face. He opened his eyes and chuckled making many people jump, "Even in death, you aim o hit me in the face? A trickster to the death, ne?" He coughed letting blood splatter on the ground. The wind gently brushed over his cheeks again but seemingly to soothe him this time, "So... kind to your... murderer.." He hit his knees looking up to the sky, "Kill me..." He smiled when he felt a sword slice through his chest. As he faded, he saw Naruto floating down to him, "You.. came?" The blonde nodded smiling, his wings fluttering. Orochimaru chuckled, "Your wings... Orange..." And the fourth ninja war was over.
The world lost a great warrior and sanin who had gone mad with power. In the end, all they would do was rebuild everything the people had lost with the smile of Naruto as they painted orange angel wings on the Hokage mountain.
