Wirt was sitting on his bed when it happened, a loud bang from his front door being kicked open and then the squeal of his younger brother as the intruder entered their house.
"Greg?" Wirt hopped off his bed and cautiously made his way into the living room where his brother had been playing with his toys.
There I'm the middle of the room stood his girlfriend, a fiery red head named Beatrice. And she looked mad.
"Uh, hey, Beatrice, you okay?" Wirt asked, cautiously taking a step towards the girl with steam practically blowing from her ears.
"No, Wirt, I am NOT okay. You want to know WHY I'm not okay?" She narrowed her glare towards the lanky teen before continuing, "a little birdie told me that you've never played Legend of Zelda. "
Wirt blinked at the girl before sighing with relief, she wasn't pissed about anything of real importance, well sort of. After all, that series of violent, brain numbing video hands was pretty much the girl's favorite thing ever. Well besides making Wirt blush or blue birds.
"O-oh, can I, I mean, it's there, uh, any way to fix that?" Wirt asked nervously, wringing his hands together. He didn't like to make his girlfriend mad, he tried very hard NOT to make the girl made that she always called him boring because of it.
"I'm so glad you asked," she grinned like a Cheshire cat as she pulled out a sleek case with gold colored characters and a small, green-clad elf-like child brandishing a sword at the front of the pack.
"No, oh nonononono! I can't play video games! You know this!" Wirt cried, turning to flee the living room, only to have a younger brother attach himself to his leg, forcing Wirt to stay in the room.
"Greg, let go of his leg." The younger boy scrambled away to his room, barely avoiding the red head in her haste to make her boyfriend play her favorite game.
A good nine hours passed and the sun had set at least two hours ago, but Wirt didn't notice. He was too caught up in his game.
"Bea, it's following me, BEATRICE WHAT DO I DO, IT'S FOLLOWING ME!" Wirt began, making his character run as fast as it possibly could and hitting his girlfriend who had fallen asleep with her head pillowed on his knee some time ago. She woke slowly, blinking a bit before registering the situation.
"What's going on?" She asked, rubbing her eyes and giving her arms a quick stretch. She couldn't tell where her boyfriend was in the game so she couldn't help him.
"I'm finally on the island that stupid bird took my sister to!" He gave a jerk of his arms before groaning in defeat, "I was caught."
"Wirt, are you seriously still there? How long have you been playing?" Beatrice asked, not sure whether to laugh at the boy or to sigh.
"Uh, since you gave it to me? But I got stuck in the village. Everyone needed me to do stuff for them. Did you know that grass grows really fast?"
"Wirt, you side quested hard." Beatrice laughed, planting a kiss on the boy's cheek. The best way to start Valentine's day was to help a poet born in the wrong time was to help him beat a video game.
