Castiel stared at Dean's peaceful, relaxed face. The fallen angel gently ran a finger across the sleeping warrior's face and smiled, a few tears filling his eyes. Angels weren't supposed to feel this way towards humans. Dean certainly didn't feel the same way about Cas. What did he have to do, to prove his loyalty and devotion? He raised Dean from hell, raised his brother from hell, even fell from heaven for his love. How could Dean not see that Cas was shattered, and he did it all for the hunter. He sighed and slumped on the end of the cheap motel bed. Tears came faster now. He deserved this, the abandonment and loneliness that came from ruining everything.
He pushed everyone away, expected to much, tried to hard to please an absent master. He came back from the dead several times to a world that didn't want him. He sobbed silently, covering his face with the collar of his trench coat in shame. He disgusted himself. The dark depression that seeped from his heart made his body cold and his limbs feel like concrete. He fell backwards with a thump, uncaring that his head throbbed and his soul shook. In fact, all of him shook. What use was a guardian angel that did nothing but whimper and cry when he felt unappreciated? Oh, boohoo, Castiel betrayed his whole family and destroyed himself for someone who would never love him. He wasn't sure if the other angels were mocking him, or if it was himself.
Finally, the angel got himself together enough to stand, and he turned to leave. "Cas?" A voice said quietly. "Dean. I was... I was just leaving." Castiel said stiffly, trying to conceal the sadness in his voice. He was still trembling and silent tears streaked down his face. Get it together, he doesn't need to worry about you. "Is something wrong?" Dean asked, and Cas felt a steady hand on his slumped shoulder. The angel turned to face the warrior, whose hair was ruffled and eyes blinking. "D-Dean. Dean, I'm broken! I'm broken and no one cares." He swallowed. Without hesitation, Dean swept the awkward virgin into his muscular arms and gripped him tightly. "I care, Castiel." Cas felt his heart soar and held Dean just as tight, love warming him.
He continued to cry, but the tears were of happiness and relief. "I love you, Dean." Castiel sputtered, almost choking on his words. He felt a warm drop of liquid on his back and felt Dean shudder in his grasp. He was also crying. "I love you too." He gasped, just as emotion filled as his angel. They sat on the bed, embracing for a long, long time. Dean finally went back to sleep, and Castiel continued to sit on the end of the bed. This time, however, he was going to watch over the man he loved and to fuck it up like always. He promised himself, and this was a promise he would keep.
