America doesn't understand why everyone seems so eager to go to England's house for the New Years. After all, he's just a grumpy guy who doesn't know how to have fun.

And so, even though a bit reluctant because his reputation as the best party thrower was wounded, he decided to go to see what was all the fuss about.

His flight got delayed and he arrived just minutes before the clock struck twelve. He rushed to open the doors and sees France waving at him.

"Sorry I'm late!"

"You arrived just in time. It's about to start!" France commented as he sipped his wine.

America was about to ask what was starting when the lights in the room dimmed, and a spotlight shone on top of the stage.

The nations beside him started to clap as soft music start playing.

He sees Austria up on stage, playing the piano, as England slowly made his way towards the mic in the middle.

England was wearing his normal suit and tie, and looked every bit as normal as he always did. But the air around him seemed different, he seems to be sparkling on stage.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot

And never brought to mind~

Should auld acquaintance be forgot

And auld land syne~

America eyes widened with surprise. England was singing. England was singing the most overdone new year's song of the world.

And yet, it was the most beautiful thing he has heard in his life.

"I bet you didn't know he could sing didn't you?" France said teasingly.

"Yeah…" was all America could manage as his whole mind and soul seems drawn towards England on stage.

For auld lang syne, my dear

For auld lang syne~

We'll take a cup of kindness yet

For auld lang syne~

America didn't notice, but everyone around him was just as mesmerized by England's singing as he was.

"He's only willing to sing once every new year's! Any other time we ask he'll just ignore us!" France said.

"So that's why everyone wanted to be here." America murmured to himself.

All around him, nations who were usually fighting with each other was smiling, some were even holding hands or hugging. Even the usually strict and uptight Germany had a small smile on his face as Italy hugged his arm. The usually angry Romano was letting Spain wrap his arms around him as they both quietly listen to England's singing.

As soon as the song was over, everyone started to countdown from 10, and the clock finally struck 12. It was the beginning of a new year.

America pushed his way through the commotion to get to England, who was standing by the side of the stage alone watching the fireworks.

"E-England."

"America, surprised to see you here. You usually have new year's plans."

"I… That was… I didn't know you…" America stammered, and hope the fireworks was covering his blush.

What was wrong with him? Why is England suddenly making him feel so nervous and giddy? His fingers itched to touch England hair, which was glittering under the fireworks.

"Well, I suppose I should wish you a happy-"

England didn't finish his sentence, for America had reached out, pulled him closed, and kissed him on his lips.

It was a chaste and soft kiss, but it left them both stunned nevertheless.

What a great way to start the new year, they both thought as they watched the sunrise together, never letting go of each other's hand.
