It was Valentines Day. A day where if you don't have a girlfriend or boyfriend you are constantly reminded of that fact. Although Ron had experienced once what it was like to have someone on Valentines Day, it was definitely not the girl he actually wanted to be with. What was he thinking?Even beginning to date Lavender, surely she gave him a love potion of some kind because he had no idea how he even got into that whole mess. Looking back on that day made Ron shudder, he had gone with Lavender to Hogsmede, where he stupidly agreed to go into a little tea shop which was decked out in hearts and other Valentines Day decorations.
Of course that was pure torture with Lavender calling him Won-Won every 5 seconds, but that's not what bothered him the most about that day. When he was walking back to the castle with Lavender they passed Hermione, alone on Valentines Day walking out of the book store. Lavender paid no mind to anything and continued dragging Ron along but Ron looked up at Hermione, and their eyes met for the first time in months. That was the moment Ron knew he had to break up with Lavender as soon as possible. He knew he had to talk to Hermione again.
In that moment he saw all the hurt in her eyes and even though the contact was only a few seconds at best, Ron didn't miss the sniffle he heard as she walked in the opposite direction. These were all mistakes of the past and he was glad things were changed now, but he didn't understand why he had not realized how much he hurt her until he looked into her eyes that day.
Ron tightened his hold around Hermione's waist as they sat in a booth across from Harry and Ginny in the Three Broomsticks. She was talking eagerly about a case that she was working on and he could see how content she was. Her hair cascaded around her face in her natural curls that Ron loved so much. Her cheeks were slightly flushed and her eyes had a light in them that they got every time she was talking about something she was passionate about. Ron smiled at her, she was truly beautiful to him. She turned to him and smiled back, although he could tell she was slightly confused as to why he was staring at her. She laughed, that sound sent chills down his spine.
"What are you staring at?" Ron's smile grew bigger as he saw that questioning look in her eye, even though he had the feeling she knew the answer. "You, you're beautiful." Before she could respond Ron leaned in and kissed her, Hermione smiled into the kiss and responded eagerly. "This is why I didn't want to go out to dinner with them Harry, they do this every time." Ginny said while rolling her eyes at her brother and his girlfriend. Ron laughed and broke out of the kiss. Hermione flushed and they all fell back into their conversation.
Even though Ron had made a lot of mistakes with Hermione and hurt her in ways he wish he could go back in time and undo. He was happy now. She was happy now. Nothing would ever change that as long as he had something to say about it. She was the only woman for him and no matter what stupid holiday it was, he would show her how much he loved her everyday.
