A Picture
By I heart Venomous Tentaculas
If you think this is mine then look at the Pen name. Yes, it's a pen name, not my real one. And my real name isn't Joanne Rowling. It's JK Rowling's if you recognize it. Really!
There were only two pictures that Harry hung in his office at auror headquarters, and they weren't even the originals. However, they were what kept Harry going on those nights when all he had was paperwork. The office walls were bare, except for those pictures. The rest of his office was very comfortable, warm toffee carpet with beige walls and dark brown chairs and desk. The slightly cluttered desk held pictures of his family, of Albus, Lily, James and Teddy, now and when they were younger, of Teddy's graduation, of James', Al's, Lily's, Hermione's. Of his and Ginny's wedding day, of Ron and Hermione's.
In a mahogany frame on the left wall was the original Order of the Phoenix, a copy of the one Mad-Eye had given him. His parents, Neville's parents, Sirius, Remus, and a whole slew of others filled the small area that the photograph showed.
The second picture was one of the DA, with all of them in it. Fred and George (looking a little odd with both ears), Collin, Ginny, Hermione, Ron, waving with five fingers. Hannah Abbott - Neville's wife, Susan Bones who was killed, Padma Patil and Pavarti Patil, the identical twins that weren't, Dennis Creevy, Ernie Macmillan, who later committed suicide after his family was killed just months after the war ended. Himself. All of them in the picture were slightly ill of ease but still managing to smile despite the aura surrounding them.
Any aurors that happened to be in the office always noticed the two, set on opposite walls, yet strangely parallel in many ways. Those two pictures had managed to unnerve and upset more aurors than he could count. Even Ron, Hermione and Ginny didn't understand why he had them up on the walls. Ron's office was filled with pictures of family. Percy and Audrey's wedding day, Harry and Ginny's, his own. Hermione's graduation picture hung proudly next to Rose's and Hugo's.
'I don't really understand why I have them up, though, so why should they?' Harry thought every time Hermione mentioned redecorating the room and getting rid of them and Harry protested. But Harry did know why they were there, even if he wouldn't admit it to himself.
While most Aurors fought for their family's, or to revenge a loved one, these where who Harry fought for. George's ear was the funniest; Padma and Pavarti's ruined faces from where a still unidentifiable curse passed them; Ron's finger (although it may have been just as well that he lost one of his middle fingers). The deaths were the easiest to explain. Collin; Susan Bones; Ernie Macmillan; Tonks; Lupin; Fabian and Gideon Prewett, Mrs. Weasley's brothers; Amelia Bones, Susan's aunt; Sirius, Lily Evans, and her eternal love for him; James Potter I, who would never know that Harry named his kid after him; Severus Snape lurked in the background of the Order picture, and Harry doubted that any of the Marauders even knew he was there. Dennis Creevy, who had disappeared into the Muggle World and had not been seen since that faithful day that Collin had been buried. They were who Harry fought for.
These were Harry's family.
AN: So it's short, and been massively edited, but I think that the idea is clearer now. This story is so simple, and so complex in one moment that it's difficult to write. Please Review! They make the world go round, I swear.
