Kagome grumbled as Sango helped her tie the thin sash around her waist; she didn't like the colors Kaede had brought for her, but there were no others that the elderly woman kept. Besides, if Inuyasha threw a hissy fit about it, then Kagome would just remind him that it was his fault anyway – baka should've kept a closer eye on her clothes!
When the two women were finished, Sango looked over her friend, grimacing a bit. "You look…" she started, but Kagome stopped her with a pointed glare. "I know, Sango-chan," she shot back in a low tone before sighing. "I'll just have to deal." Then she groaned. "My neck feels so cluttered like this – but if I pull back my hair, it'll look -"
"It'll look what?" Inuyasha started to say as he entered behind them, but the hanyou stopped when he saw Kagome. For a moment, he just stood there and stared – then, much more quickly than he'd appeared, he was gone.
Sango started forward, but Kagome stopped her. "I know where he's fled to," she told her friend, leaving the hut.
Ignoring the stares and the hushed murmurs as she made her way through the village, Kagome kept her head held high – though she knew that probably made her look more like Kikyo than the white and red haori and hakama.
When she reached the Goshinboku, there he was, huddled against the trunk.
"Inuyasha?"
No response.
Kagome sighed, turning and leaning her back against the thick trunk. "Can't you think of me as my own person?" she whispered, blinking away tears.
Her hair swept to the side as a rush of wind accompanied Inuyasha to the ground. Their eyes met and the world stood still.
"Yes," was all he said before his lips crashed into hers.
