This is a Jate fic set during season 2. Shannon, Ana-Lucia and Libby are still alive and Walt s back (don't ask me how). Jack and Kate have been together for a few weeks. Claire and Charlie and Sayid and Shannon are also together, but the story is centered on Jate.

Chapter One

Kate was walking in the jungle, so lost in her thoughts that she didn't hear Charlie calling her until he was in front of her.

"Hey Kate. Jack's looking for you" he said.

"Why? Did something happen?" Kate asked.

"No, I don't think so. He didn't tell me anything. He just told me he was looking for you."

"Oh ok."

When Charlie and Kate arrived to the camp, Jack immediatly spotted them and walked towards Kate, while Charlie went to see Claire and Aaron.

"Where were you?" Jack asked.

"In the jungle." she replied.

"Alone?"

"Yeah. Look Jack, I'm big girl, I can take care of myself." she found his protectiveness both cute and frustrating. On one hand she was glad that he cared so much, but on the other she had always been independant and wasn't used to that.

"Claire, can I talk to you?" Kate asked the blonde girl who was playing with Aaron.

"Sure" Claire smiled.

"Hum...When you were pregnant, what made you think that you were?" Kate was uneasy.

"Well, actually, I was late, so I took a test and it turned back positive." the young mother explained. "Why? Oh, Kate, you...?"

"I don't know, I'm late and I keep getting sick. The first week I thought it was just a stomach bug, but now..." Kate explained.

"What do you mean the first week? how long have you been sick and how late are you?" claire asked.

"I've been sick for the past four weeks and I'm nearly two months late." the brunette answered.

"Well, the it seems obvious that you're pregnant." Claire replied smiling. "But you should go see Jack, to be sure."

"No I don't want to tell Jack." Kate said.

"Why? Isn't he..."

"Yes, he is the father and I will tell him but not yet."

"Why not? I'm sure he'll be happy"

"I'm not." Claire shot her a glance.

"I mean I'm not sure he'll be happy about this." Kate quickly added. "We are stuck on this island. You know what I'm talking about, you have a baby. It's not the best place to raise a child."

"I know what you mean, but you'll have Jack to help you and me."

"I know. But please don't tell Jack. Besides, he's already so protective since we're together, he wouldn't allow me to take a step alone if he knew." the two women laughed.
