MSMF Prompt #21: Rivals

"Gibson, Sparx!" The Alchemist's voice rang out suddenly. The little yellow monkey perched on his shoulder gave a start, then snickered. Her brothers were in trouble, again.

The two offenders stopped their loud screeching argument and gave the Alchemist similar innocent looks. The tall man regarded them a moment and shook his head.

"I don't know, maybe I'm crazy to try and create a translator. Perhaps I really do not want to know what you two are always arguing about. Am I right, dearest Nova?" He reached up and gently scratched the neck of the little yellow monkey. She sighed contentedly.

Gibson folded his arms and marched off toward the computer terminal the Alchemist had set up for him. Sparx, however, took a step toward the Alchemist and looked up toward Nova. He made a quizzical sound, directed at her. She barked back at him, an obvious 'no'. Sparx hung his head and wandered off to the terminal set up for him – this one filled with flight simulator programs.

All was quiet for a while until a new argument arose between the pair. Gibson was trying to push his way onto Sparx's flight simulator program and Sparx was determined not to let him. Nova tugged on the Alchemist's ear and pointed out the warring duo.

"Yes, Nova, I see. Sparx, why not let Gibson try your flight simulator? After all, he and Antauri will also be piloting the flying segments of the robot."

Sparx made a huffing sound but let go of the controller. Nova couldn't stiffle her giggle, which earned her a deathly glare from Sparx.

"I have an idea, Sparx," the Alchemist said. He led the red monkey to Gibson's computer. "Why don't you try some of Gibson's science programs. I know you just like to pilot but even a pilot needs to understand aerodynamics."

Without looking up from the flight simulator, Gibson made a quick comment which earned a grumble from Sparx and a giggle from Nova. Sparx sat down at the computer and reluctantly started with an aerodynamics lesson.

The Alchemist breathed a sigh of relief. He turned to Nova and smiled. "Maybe now those two will leave us in peace so we can work on their weapons." He moved back to his workbench.

Checking to make sure the pair were fully immersed in their computer programs, the Alchemist whispered to Nova, "I'm not sure it's safe to hand those two weapons, though." Nova giggled as the Alchemist went back to fine-tuning a pair of large red magnets.
