A short one shot set a couple of days after the season 4 finale. I originally posted this one on my Tumblr, but I thought I'd archive it here as well. Let me know what you think and I hope you enjoy! -hopelesslyhopeful7211
Emma's newly darkened heart twinges in pain. She gasps and falls to her knees grasping at her chest where her heart lay beating too quickly just beneath. Something is wrong. Her eyes begin to water. Her voice cracks as she yells out, "Regina!" A puff of smoke arises and she disappears.
The smoke takes her to her old apartment. She takes a knee in the corner and tries to be silent as the sight before her breaks even the darkest of hearts.
Regina sits on her bed, sobbing. The dagger reading, "Emma Swan" sits on her lap. Large tears fall and glisten against the cold metal. Her favorite red leather jacket drapes over the brunette's heaving shoulders.
She was supposed to be happy. Rage fills Emma's body. Where is Robin Hood? Why is he not making her happy? I swear I will… Her head drops as she desperately tries her best not to finish her dark thought. Everything feels so different.
Emma stands up and takes a couple of steps forward. The tears in her eyes spill over.
"Regina?"
Regina jumps up. The red jacket falls onto the bed, but she holds the dagger in a firm grip. Emma? She turns around and her jaw drops.
"I'm sorry," Emma drops her head in shame, "I scare you," she states rather than questions.
New tears fall from Regina's chocolate eyes and she flies across the room to stand in front of the new Dark One. Emma lifts her head to meet her gaze. No. No fear. Something else.
"No. I miss you," Regina chokes out. She forces herself not to reach out and touch Emma. But god, she wants to.
Emma's eyes lock into Regina's as she reads her expression. She's not lying. With Regina I always know.
"I miss you too. Why didn't you summon me?" The blonde looks away and up at the ceiling in an attempt to control her emotions.
Regina drops the dagger. It falls heavily onto the floor with a loud clank. Emma's gaze darts from the dagger to Regina, but she does not make a move to grab it.
"I do not want to control you, Emma," Regina states strongly.
Emma pauses to consider. She finally moves and cups the brunette's reddened, tear stained cheek.
"But Regina, I trust you"
They look at each other as if they are the only two people in existence. The world melts away from around them.
Emma begins to lean in. Their faces grow closer and closer together until their lips meet in a soft, tender kiss.
A bright, white light spreads across Emma's lips.
Any curse can be broken by true love's kiss.
