A/N: So, after years of first publishing this, I've decided to attempt to re-write this. I wrote this as a way to develop my writing skills, and it is honestly hard to read through it. I still get notifications from this story, so I figured that it would probably upset a couple people if I took it down (as I've done with most of my other stories). That being said, it might take me a long while to get through all of it. Hell, the plot might change completely because I don't remember any of it, and I might want to take it in a completely different direction.

Prologue

I'd never thought that this would happen to me. I'd never actually thought that I would find my mate, and I definitely didn't think that he would have a girlfriend. Usually stories involving mates were just stories of people finding each other and spending their life only with each other. Us, though, Edward and I... we were complicated.

Tanya wasn't mean. She wasn't the wholly evil villain in our love story. She was... humble and kind. In that same area, Tony wasn't evil. He was funny and kind and human. He was everything I'd ever wanted - all wrapped up in one. Who knew that finding your mate didn't automatically make a happily-ever-after ending a sure thing?

The flight attendant announced the groups that were now allowed to start boarding and I was so thankful for Matt's last minute upgrade to first class. Matt, my adoptive brother, stood and held out his hand for me to take. I paused for a second before taking his hand. Edward wasn't going to show up and stop me from getting on the flight. Things like that only happened in movies, and it wouldn't have mattered anyway as his wedding was tonight. I grabbed my passport and boarding pass before hauling my carry on over for the flight attendant to inspect. As she approved it, checked my passport and boarding pass, I felt the ghost of the fast nervous beatings of my idiotic, dead heart. Even while breaking my heart, it seemed like Edward Cullen could do the impossible and make me feel alive again.

The flight attendant handed me my items back and without looking back, I marched onto that plane.
