Today was the day that Daisy had been waiting for her whole life. In a few minutes, she would be heading one step closer to spending forever with the man of her life. So, why was she so nervous?
She trembled in her silk wedding dress while Piper, her koopa dressmaker, tended to making sure everything about her gown was perfect. The Sarasian ruler's mother, Queen Hinohana, gazed dreamily at her daughter with her white gloved hands clasped over her chest and a microscopic tear bubbling in the corner of her eye.
"Oh, Ritoru," she whispered softly. "I cannot believe this day has come! My little Hana…."
"Heh heh, yeah….." Daisy shifted uncomfortably in her dress and tried her best to ignore the scowl of annoyance that was thrown to her by Piper. "Cripes, Princess! Hold still or you'll be wearing your normal dress down the aisle…." she scolded. The koopette gave the sash around Daisy's waist a still-gentle pull, then stepped back to review her masterpiece.
"All done, Miss! Whad'ya think?" Piper grinned a toothless smile and gestured towards the full-length mirror that stood in front of the desert princess.
She swiveled around to face the mirror. Now normally, the tomboy ruler would have cringed at the sight of any dress on her that wasn't her trademark gaming one. This time it was different.
Her large sapphire-blue eyes widened in surprise at her reflection. The silky white gown flowed to the floor with a full skirt and straps instead of sleeves. A sunset-orange sash wrapped around her waist, and huge bows and ribbons of the same hue edged with gold string were carefully draped around the skirt. Her signature sapphire daisy pendent lay sparkling on her chest.
As for the accessories, there was a wide golden band that decorated each forearm, with a strand of silk connecting it to the hem of the gown. Daisy's flower earrings glittered on her ear lobes when she pushed a large strand of short auburn hair out of the way. When she lifted up her skirt a couple of inches, the toes of two shining golden shoes with exact replicas of the pendent stuck on top peeked out. A long silk veil was held into her hair by her golden jeweled crown, which was now decorated with a ring of fresh daisies circling it, and it fell all the way to the floor and flared out to make a semi-train.
"I-it's beautiful…thanks a bunch Pipes!" Daisy gushed, throwing her tan arms around the koopette's neck.
"Oh, Ritoru! It's true! Many thanks, Piper" the queen agreed happily.
"Heh heh, yeah, no probs guys….," The dressmaker developed a scarlet blush growing on her yellow cheeks as she sheepishly smiled. "And, there's more….heh heh….."
She hopped over to the bride-to-be with her hands behind her back, and she pulled out a bouquet of daisies tied up with a sunny yellow ribbon with a flourish. Daisy accepted the addition with the same amount of gusto as before.
Suddenly, the faint sounds of an organ playing seeped into the tent. Daisy felt a chill run down her spine. The traditional Sarasian Wedding March was being played. "Welp," she gulped, turning to the preparation tent's opening. Her mother shifted over to her side, and Piper jumped up to peck Daisy on the cheek for good luck and hobbled outside to take her seat at the wedding. "Let's get this started."
