FASH: I'm not much of a het person the majority of the time (as you may have noticed), but Marco/Maruko is pretty adorable...
Disclaimer: Still don't own it.

Maruko had gone off to university, an inevitable course of action that had still managed to throw Marco's world off kilter no matter how much he'd prepared himself for it.
This wasn't like when she'd moved on to high school and they could still both meet up somewhere in between their schools before going home, her university was a couple cities over. The distance alone made it so that dates were difficult to set up, and their conflicting schedules were sometimes too hectic that they didn't have the chance to meet up at all until the weekend, homework permitting.
Maruko tended to get a lot of homework.
Sure, they kept in touch by calling each other while they were procrastinating on assignments, but sometimes he worried that she'd forget all about him; the silly high schooler that sent her text messages during class and hook up with someone her own age, along with other groundless fears.
It was downright depressing, made even worse by the fact his entire team knew why he was feeling down and a fair number of them offered vague words of comfort and encouragement that really didn't help at all.
Today was their third date since Maruko had started going to university, and although Marco had tried to plan a variety of activities, somehow they ended up stopping before reaching any fore-planned destinations, sitting together on a bench in the park, watching the sun slowly drift underneath the horizon.
It wasn't as if the sight wasn't romantic or didn't set a certain mood, but...
"I feel a little awkward, not seeing you for so long and then just taking you out to watch the sunset. It seems rather anti-climactic, I'd say."
Maruko chuckled and slowly reached out to grab ahold of Marco's hand. "I don't think it's anti-climactic at all, I think it's sweet. Besides, sometimes it's nice to just sit back and watch the world pass you by, don't you think?"
He nodded wordlessly, wishing he'd had the foresight to plan something like this so that he could have brought along a blanket to share.
Maruko shivered a little, pressing closer to him for warmth and Marco instinctively wrapped an arm around her shoulders, bringing her closer still as his eyes stayed locked on the sunset.
The warm oranges, pinks and yellows along with the cool blues reminded him of the promise he'd given her over a year ago, to watch the sunrise together after victory.
Although this certainly wasn't the situation he'd vowed to experience with her back then, and it wasn't even what he'd planned to be doing with her this night, he couldn't help but think that this simple pastime, watching the sunset with her sitting right next to him, was heaven.
He whispered his conclusion in her ear and was awarded a soft smile along with a light blush, neither of which faded even as he crept closer, going further through her defences than Maruko would allow any other boy to go, to steal a kiss.
He pulled back just a moment later, suave smile in place. "Actually, after thinking about it for a little longer, every moment with you is heaven."
Maruko rolled her eyes, but it wasn't dark enough yet for her blush to remain hidden.
"I see you're still a sweet talker."
"Only to you, my dear."
