This is a short text slightly changed from an essay my English teacher asked us to write. It is rather short. The theme was: write about something ordinary like going back from school and make it more exciting. I was really not inspired and being a huge fan of Detective Conan, I could not resiste from writing about Sherry..XD

I do not own Detective Conan, nor any of the characters.

I am not a native speaker and do not have any writer talents, so please tell me if there are any mistakes or problems...

J'entends venir l'hiver

By ShihoShVG

"Enjoy your holidays, Miyano!"

"Thank you, you too," I replied coldly to my university classmates who turned at the corner of the boulevard. I sighed with relief. Winter break was finally there. I took a glance at my watch which showed half past six. I still had to walk for half an hour before reaching home. Thus I dived into reflection: during the holidays, I was going to finish studying the chemistry books I borrowed from a graduated student, I was going to recover my lost hours of sleep,..stop drinking coffee for a while. Then I would maybe take a cooking course since I could not live forever on instant noodles and maybe I...

A freezing wind pulled me out of my thoughts, I shuddered, looked around and smiled: the streets were empty and covered by a thick layer of snow which reflected the pale yellow light of the lamps. Stars shone in the black sky like jewels. I felt peaceful and satisfied, a sort of happiness not felt for a long time. It was magical and snow seemed to absorb all noises. I walked, admiring snowflakes on my warm breath, listening to the muffled cracking of snow under my feet. I was tired and closed my eyes.

Suddenly, I felt a chilling stare which I only knew too well. The icy stare of the worst cold-blooded assassin on earth. My eyes opened with fear. A cold sweat dropped along my spine. His steps were approaching quickly, light and steady like a tiger while hunting. I could hear the snow under his weight. My heart raced, I panicked, my breath became jerky. I tried not to look back and hid my troubled mind. I tried to accelerate in the snow. He paced knowing that I knew he was there. The monster was delighted. He could feel my fear. A cruel smile appeared on his face: the difficult preys were the most exciting ones. I started to run, cursing my slippery boots. He followed. I turned right without thinking… It was a dead end. I stopped, breathing hard, covered in sweat. He drew his gun against my back.

I smirked. Just face reality. I turned around and met his frozen emerald eyes without a blink.

"Hi! Long time no see, Shiho, no… I should call you, Sherry," he said grinning, a cigarette between his teeth.

"What do you want? ..Gin," I replied with the same coldness of his. His smile widened…

"You've got work, little wine."

It was how an endless winter without sunshine, in company of the crows started.

The title comes from a poem I read on the web which quite fits, I do not own it either. For the one who can read French and are interested, go to

http:/www. poesie-citation .fr/index .php ?option=com _fireboard&Itemid=628&func =view&id=560&catid =13 (without the blanks)

For the others, J'entends venir l'hiver means "I can hear winter coming"

So what do you think? Please review.
