Many are familiar with the story of Avatar Aang, the last air bender. But before Aang, before Roku, and before Kyoshi, there are Avatars with tales of their own. One, in particular, unfolds the mystery of the Fire Nation's hatred, a hatred that later leads to a lust for domination.

Our story begins with Avatar Hiroshi, ten reincarnations before Aang. At the ending days of his life, Hiroshi wanted to pave the way for the new Avatar. He realized that during one Avatar's death and the time for another to mature, the four nations often rage war. He did not want this cycle of bloodbath to continue. So he devised a plan, convincing the four nations to sign a peace treaty.

But to ensure that these nations will uphold their promises, Hiroshi suggested that each nation trades its eldest prince, each to be treated as an honourable guest in another's nation. And at the sixteenth year mark, these princes will be returned to their nations to take their places as rulers. Aside from preventing the nations from attacking each other, Hiroshi, in part, was hoping that these princes will grow more compassionate toward another nation, another culture. Little did he know, his actions would send them to the darkest days of their lives.

Soman of the Air Nomads, three months old, was sent to the Fire Nation; Kang of the Earth Kingdom, five years old, was sent to the Water Tribe; Delun of the Fire Kingdom, four years old, to the Earth Kingdom; Wendat of the Water Tribe, two years old, to the Air Nomads. And in these lands, each endured a different kind of hardship.
